GOD IN SEARCH OF MEN
By James L. Thornton
Luke 19:1. And Jesus entered and passed through Jericho.
Luke 19:10. For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost. (KJV)
The First Scripture Tells Us That Jesus Is Passing Through Another One Of The Many Towns And Villages That Was His Desire To Visit While He Lived On The Earth.
The Second Scripture Give Us The Reason Why He Had This Desire To Visit So Many Places.
Nobody Who Has Ever Heard The Sound Of Those Feet Has Been Quite Able To Rid Himself Of The Haunting Realization That If They Mean Anything At All, They Mean That God Is On The Road, SEARCHING, SEARCHING, SEARCHING.
Once To Every Man And Nation,
Comes The Moment To Decide,
In The Strife Of Truth With Falsehood,
For The Good Or Evil Side."
(James Russell Lowell; The Present Crisis)
This Was The Last Time Jesus Was To Cross The Fords Of The Jordan, Most Of Those Who Turned Out To See Him Pass That Day Would See His Face No More.
Behind Him Lay The,
Peraean Journey
Galilean Ministry
Samaria
Sea Of Galilee
Mount Of Transfiguration
42 Months, 3½ Years, 1277 Days, He Had Constantly Been On The Move, Walking Daily From Place To Place, Teaching, Healing, Ministering, Feeding, And Comforting All Who Would Ask.
The Journey Was Almost Over, Before Him Lay The Final Seventeen Miles (All Uphill), And Ten Days From That Day He Would Give His Life As A Ransom For All.
Luke 9:51. And it came to pass, when the time was come that he should be received up, he stedfastly set his face to go to Jerusalem, (KJV)
He Was Coming, That Day, Openly, At The Head Of His Disciples And Apostles, Family, Friends, And Others Who Had Attached Themselves To Him For Various Reasons.
It Was A Festive Occasion, Only Ten Days Until The Feast Of The Passover, The Highest Jewish Feast, Where The Lamb Would Be Slain, As It Had Since Moses’ Day.
The Multitude Did Not Know That He Himself Would Be The "Lamb Of Sacrifice."
Jesus Enters Jericho (Six Hours From Jerusalem).
An Ancient City Of Palms, Land Of Eternal Summer, And Watered By Many Springs, Like An Oasis In A Desert.
There Were Men From Every Nation Congregated There, Soldiers, Traders, Fanatics, Robbers, Priests, Tax Collectors, Laborers, Curious Sight Seers, etc.
Into The Midst Of This Mob Came Jesus.
News Must Have Already Preceded Him Saying, The Prophet From Galilee Is Coming
Close By Was Bethany Where Jesus Had Recently Raised Lazarus From The Dead, And Because Of That The Sanhedrin Said He Must Die. (John 11:45-53)
Everyone Turned Out To See Him Pass.
Men, Curious, Some Angry, Some Half Convinced, Women, Holding Up Their Babies, Traders, Soldiers, A Solid Wall Of On Lookers.
Jesus Could Hear The Mumbling Of The Crowd.
Would He Just Pass Through?
Would He Perform A Miracle?
Would He Be Someone’s Guest?
Would He Silently Go On His Way?
Everyone Conversed And Gave Their Opinion, Except One (Who Seemed Unwanted).
A Publican Named Zacchaeus , He Was Pushed And Shoved, He Could Not See (Because He Was Small Of Statue).
Zacchaeus Was Chief Among Sinners.
He Was A Traitor,
He Was A Liar,
He Was A Cheat,
He Was A Thief,
He Was A Robber.
What Had Brought Him? Not Curiosity Only, But The Irresistible Drawing Of The Holy Ghost.
"And He Sought To See Jesus Who He Was;" (Luke 19:3)
He Climbs Up Into A Sycamore Tree. (Luke 19:4))
Can We Imagine The Feeling Zacchaeus Had When Jesus Entered His Street? Zacchaeus’ Eyes Fell On Jesus, Jesus’ Eyes Fell On Zacchaeus,
The Eyes Of All Heaven Fell On The Scene.
Luke 19:5. And when Jesus came to the place, he looked up, and saw him, and said unto him, Zacchaeus, make haste, and come down; for to day I must abide at thy house. (KJV)
With His Heart Pounding, At Jesus’ Bidding, Zacchaeus Made Haste And Came Down, And Received Him Joyfully (Luke 19:6)
Amid The Mumbling And Skepticism Zacchaeus Repented.
Luke 19:8. And Zacchaeus stood, and said unto the Lord; Behold, Lord, the half of my goods I give to the poor; and if I have taken any thing from any man by false accusation, I restore him fourfold.
9. And Jesus said unto him, This day is salvation come to this house, forsomuch as he also is a son of Abraham.
10. For the Son of man is come to seek and to save
that which was lost. (KJV)
"Once To Every Man And Nation Comes The Moment To Decide, In The Strife Of Truth With Falsehood, For The Good Or Evil Side." (James Russell Lowell; The Present Crisis)
