Bobby Sherman Aids Young Cancer Victims

"Did you know," asked Bobby Sherman as he leaned forward toward a group of people, “that more teenagers die of cancer than of any other disease? I had no idea that it struck kids until I recently started to do some research into the problem.

"The kids really are important to me, and I want to do everything I can to help them. Like this cancer thing...when I found out that it hit the kids so hard I asked what I could do to help."

What Bobby has done is something very positive - he has set up The Bobby Sherman Cancer Research Fund. "What's more important is that every cent of it goes to research hospitals. Some friends and myself will pick up the tab for organization and running it, so that all the money the kids contribute goes directly to help other kids."

The Research Fund is something new - Sherman has only begun to get it off the ground. But it's more important to him right now than almost anything else. "The Concern Foundation, under which we operate, has agreed to set up a special fund where young people can help...and that's The Bobby Sherman Research Fund," explained Sherman.

There are three doctors in different parts of the world all working on the same theory of prevention and cure. Bobby's fund goes to help these doctors in their research.

This fund is important to Bobby because it goes to help "the kids, God love 'em," as he says. And because it gives the young people a chance to do something for themselves.

The project comes at a time when Sherman couldn't be more involved in his profession. His new ABC Television Network series, "Getting Together," premiers on Saturday, Sept. 18 (8:00 - 8:30 p.m., EDT). His records, all selling into the millions, get recorded in the evenings, and mostly in the studio he has created in his own home. Then on weekends, Bobby is on the road for several concerts.

"It's not so bad," Bobby said cheerfully, with an eye to his manager, "I get some time off in between the concerts. And it's what I want to do.

This is vitally important. I hope that all my fans will help to make the Fund useful and to speed the discovery of a permanent cure."
