Bobby:   How To Make Him Love You

Bobby Sherman - Teen Scene December 1972You know that you love Bobby Sherman.  Every time you've seen him on TV your heart has started beating a little faster and you've felt a funny kind of thrill right down to the tops of your toes.

And now you're wondering how you can make Bobby love you.  What kind of a girl could win the heart of a wonderful guy like Bobby?

Suppose you got a chance to know him, after you've been introduced to him, then what?  How would you begin to win Bobby's love?

The first thing you'd have to realize and remember, in trying to win Bobby's heart, is that to have someone fall in love with you, you have to be a loving kind of person.  Love isn't something you can switch on and off.  It's a way of feeling.  It means caring about the other person, and sincerely wanting to make him happy.

So even if you haven't ever met Bobby, you should ask yourself if you are a loving kind of person right now.  How do you get along with your family and friends?

Love means warmth and sharing, and sometimes, it can mean sacrifices, too.   For instance, let's say you have a younger sister.  Do you show her love and consideration, even when it means making sacrifices?

If you've planned to go out for the afternoon with your own friends, and your mom asks you to take her along, do you sulk and make her feel unwanted?

But what has that got to do with winning a boy, you may ask.  A lot.   Because a boy like Bobby, who is warm and good-natured himself is going to want a girl who is that way, too.  And he'll judge her not only by the way she comes on when she's with him, but also, by how she treats her family and friends.

"No boy is really attracted to a girl who's forever squabbling with her folks, finding fault with her brothers and sisters, and being mean and catty with her friends," Bobby believes.

And because Bobby is a natural honest kind of person, he can see through the phony sweetness that some girls adopt when they're trying to make an impression on him.  Bobby comes from a warm, loving family, and he can tell about other people, and how they feel about their folks.

In fact, high on the list of qualities that would make Bobby love you, is honesty.  He sets a great store by this, and if he ever caught you in a lie, he would be deeply disappointed in you.

For instance, if he was doing a show, and he asked you to rehearsal, he'd probably want to know how you liked the show - and he wouldn't want you to fib about it either.

"If two people are really, really close," says Bobby, "they have no need to lie to one another.  They'll be tactful, yes, careful not to hurt one another's feelings.  But when it comes right down to basics, they'll be honest."

Part of being honest, too, is being yourself.  Yes, we know you keep hearing that, but just what does it mean to you?

It doesn't mean being rude and sloppy.  If that's being yourself, then it's time to make a few changes.  It does mean trying to develop your best features and playing down those that are less than perfect.

One girl we know insisted that she wouldn't do a thing to correct the high-pitched squeaky tone of her voice, or control the nervous giggle that drove her friends bananas.

Wrong.  Being yourself means being your best self.  But it also means being honest about the kind of person you are, deep down inside.

Bobby  believes that the worst thing about a girl being dishonest with a boy is the effect that her hypocrisy may have on her own character.  He feels that no one can live a lie, day after day, without becoming a real nothing.

So, if you should meet Bobby, and discover that he really digs you, you'd better be honest.  Tell him what sports, what movies, what kind of music really turns you on.

If you want Bobby to fall in love with you, we hope you're a cheerful, optimistic kind of person, because he certainly is.  And he wouldn't want to fall in love with a girl who spent a lot of time deep in gloom, sulking, or feeling sorry for herself.

If you want to make Bobby love you, you couldn't be too shy, because he likes the kind of girl who can talk to strangers easily, who is relaxed at parties.   "Everybody is a little shy at times, of course," says Bobby.   "I used to be shy myself.  But it's something you can overcome if you try."

And Bobby knows that the best way to get over being shy is just to forget about yourself, and get really interested in the people around you.  If you're really shy, you won't get over it right away, but you can start working on it.

Does Bobby have any plans for getting married right now?  Not yet.   There are a lot of things he wants to try first, career things.  And if he fell in love with you he'd want you to be patient and understanding.

Because when he is finally ready for marriage, and when he meets the girl he wants for his wife, he'll do everything he can to make her the happiest girl in the world.

And maybe, if you're lucky, she might be you.
