Bobby - One Night In His Love Life
It was exactly 7:30 at the Fabulous Forum in Los
Angeles and thousands waited in the darkened auditorium. All eyes were fixed on the
stage where their hero would appear any moment. Suddenly a spotlight swung to a side
entrance. There stood Bobby Sherman in the flesh, bathed in a beam of light!
Then amid applause, ecstatic cheers and cries of love,
Bobby made his way down the aisle to the stage. A guard of ushers, security guards
and UCLA football stars accompanied him.
The fringe on Bobby's western shirt was swinging, his
fingers were snapping and his eyes were sparkling with joy. He couldn't have looked
happier as he stretched out his arms and smiled a big welcome to all his fans. A
wonderful night of love was beginning!
When he got up on the stage and flashed his famous
V-sign for peace, the whole place went wild. The noise was deafening, overwhelming,
absolutely wonderful. And it didn't subside very much when Bobby started to sing.
"This is for you," Bobby called out as he
pointed toward the middle of the audience on the right side. "Listen."
He sang song after song, all his biggest hits and
personal favorites. He waved, smiled, winked and talked to the fans he'd come to
entertain. But most of all, he sang to them and for them. And he sang from his
heart.
Meanwhile, fans showed they loved Bobby, too, by
showering the stage with love beads, notes, candy and other tokens of affection. One
even hurried to the stage to give Bobby a handkerchief to wipe his face. He took it
gratefully and then blew her a kiss.
He was happy. For him this was what being in show
business really was all about, putting his whole heart and soul into his songs. At
one point earlier, he'd gotten so carried away, he'd climbed onto his guitar case and let
the girls who had seats at the back of the stage hug and kiss him.
Bobby's eyes were moist with love and happiness.
He loved and appreciated his fans so much, he almost couldn't say good-night. He
would have liked to stay there for hours longer, singing and meeting and getting to know
them. But unfortunately the evening had to end sometime. And, finally, Bobby
had to sing his last song.
Then he told the audience how much he'd loved being
with them, how sorry he was to go. And they gave him a long, loud standing
ovation. It was quite awhile before the Forum was finally emptied. People just
stood for a long time, hoping for another sight of Bobby.
Bobby's night of love had ended, it seemed. But
backstage it was just beginning. When Bobby left the stage he knew he wasn't going
to have to hop into his waiting car and go home. Instead, there were some lovely
girls waiting backstage for him - not just one or two or three, but fifteen girls who have
a very special place in Bobby's heart.
Bobby had been thinking about these girls all
evening. He hadn't met them yet, but he'd heard a lot about them and was really
looking forward to seeing them.
The girls were from the Los Angeles Society for
Crippled Children. They were all big fans of Bobby, and meeting him had been their
wildest dream. Now there he was, up close, just as handsome and warm and friendly
as they knew he'd be.
Bobby talked and laughed with them and autographed lots
of pictures. They had a wonderful time sharing jokes and stories and talking about
plans and dreams for the future.
It was one of Bobby's most thrilling nights.
"They were really beautiful," he said. "I'll remember that evening
for a long time."
But, finally, the night did have to end. By then
everyone was pretty tired, but they were happy too. Bobby and the audience, Bobby
and those fifteen girls - they'd shared a night of love they'll never forget. And
they hope the future will hold many nights as wonderful as that one.
