Tiger Beat Spectacular - Spring 1970
To everyone who knows him Bobby means something special.
Here in their own words is...
"What Bobby Means
To Me!"
MRS. SHERMAN (Mother)
- Talking about my son, Bobby, isn't hard because my husband and I love him so much and we
are so very proud of him. What's hard is to keep from rambling on knowing full well
that we are about the two most prejudiced people when it comes to looking at Bobby.
For years a mother worries, and I surely did, about what would happen to Bobby when he
went out into the big wide world, but secretly in the back of my mind I knew Bobby would
do well. Why? Because he cares about people. Anyone can have talent, or
an intelligent mind, but there are few people who add to their talents a touch of humanity
and love in everything they do. Bobby does this, and this is why I am so very proud
of him today.
MR. SHERMAN (Father)
- Any father is proud of his son, but I can't help but be extra proud of Bobby for the
outstanding accomplishment he has made throughout his life. To his mother and me,
the past year and a half has been wonderful to watch, but for us, Bobby was doing
extraordinary things from the time he was a baby. This success, to us, just seems to
be one more stepping stone in Bobby's life. But I think above all the thing that
strikes us so poignantly is that Bobby has never forgotten about his parents. He has
never let us forget that he loves us as much as we love him, and to this day he is very
respectful toward us both. For a parent to know that his son or daughter appreciates
them is a very wonderful feeling.
DARLENE (Sister)
- Bobby and I shared many wonderful times as children, but getting together with him now
(even though it isn't too often) means more to me than ever before, because now when we
talk, as adults, we can really express our true beliefs. When Bobby visits me and my
husband in Maryland, sometimes we stay up all night talking. We catch up on all the
things happening in Bobby's career, then he asks me all about our daily lives and about
our children, and then the conversation always turns to things that really matter.
Bobby really cares about what's happening to things close around him and to things
happening in the world today. I think his concern is beautiful. Along with his
worldly dreams, though, he never forgets about his loved ones. He calls us often,
even when he can't see us, and this means a great deal - just to know he cares!
HENRY BECKMAN (Clancey)
- Bobby is a wonderful person, he's strong, of good character, and he likes to taste many
experiences in life. Bobby doesn't come to me too often for advice, but once in a
while he does and then I give whatever advice I can come up with or I try to at least tell
him where to go for information. I think "Brides" has a lot going for it,
and of course, Bobby has helped to popularize it tremendously.
MARK LEONARD (Aaron
Stempel) - Bobby, who? No, seriously I think he's a very nice
boy. I like him. He is very considerate, very aware of other people and what
they are doing and what they are contributing to society. I think this awareness is
kind of unusual in most young people today. Bobby really cares. He's a good
little actor with a natural instinctive flair. He's got good taste, lots of charm
and he is constantly doing things and going places, trying to improve things. He's
very rich, too.
ROBERT BROWN (Jason)
- Describing Bobby is a very difficult thing to do, I don't mean physical description.
To someone my age or of another generation I would say that here is a performer who
is almost a natural. He doesn't really have too much feel as an actor since he is
relatively new at it. But he has enormous resources that make it seem he's been
acting for a long time.
He's a young man with a lot of talent. He's
interested in most things, and quite aware of what is happening around him at all
times. Bobby is able to project that awareness into his role in a very convincing
continuity. He is a young artist and he is definitely going places.
To a younger person, I would say Bobby Sherman is a
healthy and handsome young man. I would trust him with my daughter. He
wouldn't hurt anyone or teach anyone things that are not virtuous!
BRIDGET HANLEY (Candy)
- People always ask me if in another place and time I could have fallen for Bobby.
First of all, I don't think I could ever fall in love with an actor because I am an
actress and then you have two egos competing. I think Bobby is a very easy person to
fall in love with, though. He is so very talented and has unlimited energies.
His career and mostly his fans are very important to him and he is the only actor I know
who doesn't go home at night just to read lines. He sings, plays instruments, writes
songs, and makes so many personal appearances. He has so many qualities I admire in
a person, honesty and a genuine affection for people. I think Bobby is adorable and
he needs people to like him. He needs love, and therefore he loves easily
himself. I'm head over heels in love with him as a friend.
SUSAN TOLSKY (Biddie)
- Bobby goes through as many moods in one day as you can count. He is a very dear
friend to me and one of the first persons I got to be close with on the show. I
think he is so dear to me because I see him as little Bobby Sherman. He forgets all
about everything but being himself when he's with me and therefore he's grand. We've
got a great communication going on between us. We can look across the room at one
another and know we want to talk or that we don't want to kid around and want to be
serious. Also, I've got a very nice position with Bobby, for I'm the best back
scratcher he has ever known.
Bobby is sensitive to criticism, but he is also very
open minded about it. I've never heard him raise his voice to anyone and I've never
heard him talk down to anyone. He's got such drive, too. He is always ready to
work. I know I'd die if I had to go out and give concerts every weekend besides
working on the set. He has an unbelievable amount of energy and he is simply
fantastic.
JOAN BLONDELL (Lottie)
- Bobby isn't the type of guy a woman feels motherly towards, at least not me. I
tell you, if I were 40 pounds lighter and 40 years younger, I'd be after him myself, and
Honey, he wouldn't be able to get away!
DAVID SOUL (Joshua)
- I think Bobby is a very wonderful person. He's very dedicated to his profession
and very versatile. We've always gotten along beautifully on the set, and I suppose
we would off the set too, though I've never had a chance to be with him on the streets.
We each have our own circle of friends and really don't desire to associate with
one another off set. It isn't that we don't like each other or anything like that,
we just each do our own thing. He's a great person, though, and will make some lucky
girl a great husband.
