Bobby
Sherman - His Fax, Plans, Dreams
When Bobby Sherman walks into a room, the first thing you notice are
his twinkling, happy blue eyes. They perfectly express his joyful and loving
disposition. But Bobby, like all of us, has had his share of hurt, disappointment
and worry. Sometimes, if you look hard enough, you might detect the slightest trace
of sadness behind Bobby's usually cheerful face. But the great and beautiful
part about Bobby is - no matter what the problem, he still manages to laugh or smile
through it all and go right on caring about and loving others.
There's an old saying, "You get back what you give."
These words hold much truth when it comes to Bobby Sherman. Part of the love that so
many people like yourself feel for Bobby stems from the fact that he is such a caring
person. That's why getting to know Bobby can be a wonderful experience. You
see, there just aren't enough people around - in or out of show business - who will
sincerely go out of their way to help someone, even a stranger. But Bobby would -
and he has done so in the past. That's how Bobby is - and if he doesn't like to
talk about it, it's because it's something he feels is personal and from the heart - not
for garnering publicity.
The terrible part about caring for someone as much as you care for
Bobby is that when he's hurt, you feel an honest-to-goodness hurt too. Recently,
when his ABC-TV show Getting Together was cancelled, Bobby received thousands of letters
from you - telling him how much you had enjoyed the show and how upset you were about it
going off the air. Bobby was deeply touched by these letters. To him, it
meant that you care just as much about him as he cares about you!
There's no denying that Bobby did feel sad about losing the show,
for he loved doing it. But he reconciled himself to the situation by turning his
thoughts back - back to the days when he did a show called Shindig and then a show called
Here Come The Brides. This helped Bobby to realize that Getting Together was part
of the course, part of growing up as a performer.
Shindig was Bobby's first TV show on which he appeared regularly
each week. He had loved it - the excitement and the thrill of appearing not only on
television, but also in front of a live audience! After Shindig went off the air,
there was a period of time when Bobby didn't know what he wanted to do. He felt such
a deep sense of loss about the show. But as time passed, Bobby began to understand
how much he had learned from being a part of the Shindig case - and when Here Come The
Brides was casting its lead roles, Bobby was ready for the show. He is aware now of
how far he has come from the days when he just used to dream about being a performer!
Making records was also part of that dream - and that, too, has come
true. In fact, Bobby has had hit after hit, both singles and LPs. Yes, Bobby
Sherman has come such a long way, and when he thinks about Getting Together no longer
being on the air, it doesn't really upset him anymore - for he understands now that it was
a necessary part of his life.
As much as Bobby loves being surrounded by people, there are still
times when he likes to be alone - so that he can gather his thoughts and maybe even sneak
in a daydream or two. While he was doing Getting Together, Bobby would often use the
privacy of his dressing room in his spare moments to relax and sometimes to just let his
mind drift towards the future. During these very private moments, Bobby often
thought about someday becoming a record producer and producing other singers' music.
It was an ambition that he had thought about frequently, for much as he loved to sing and
record himself - he did someday want to produce the efforts of others. Music is, and
always will be, important to Bobby, but Bobby could never leave acting out of his future -
it's too much a part of him! Making a motion picture and becoming a serious actor is
also part of Bobby's dream. Since he has never appeared in a film, it would open up
a whole new world for him as a performer.
It seems, though, that the door to a whole new world is partially
ajar for Bobby right now! Bobby recently starred in a Mod Squad episode titled
"Outside Position," which should be aired on ABC-TV sometime in February.
Dramatic parts are not new to Bobby, cos on Here Come The Brides many a script called for
some serious moments.
But Bobby Sherman is a realist, not the kind of boy who looks at the
world through rose-colored glasses. In other words, Bobby sees things as they really
are - not as he'd like them to be. Of course, he daydreams about things he'd like to
do, and how they'd turn out - but who doesn't daydream?! The thing that worries
Bobby right now, however, is having enough time to do all he wants to do!
Besides his career, being involved with people is a very important
part of Bobby's life. He could never stop caring about others, no matter what came
up career-wise. Eventually, Bobby would like to settle down and get married.
He feels everybody needs somebody else. And that, too, is part of his plan for the
future - finding someone he can depend on, someone who'll love him as much as he loves
her! And just maybe that girl could be you!!
