Fave Talks To Bobby Sherman
(Part 2)
The sun was warmly shining and the last glimmer of dew
clung softly to the bright green grass. Only the joyous chirping of the birds broke the
stillness in the air. It was almost as if the park itself was patiently waiting for Bobby
to make his appearance!
Right on time we saw the midnight blue Rolls Royce
coming down the narrow winding road that leads deep into the park. Bobby looked just
gorgeous as he parked his car by the curb and came towards us, flashing Fave's
photographer Kenny Lieu, a big smile and greeting me with a beautiful, "Hi
Babe!"
Bobby is the most wonderful Fave in the world to
interview and photograph. He never seems to tire and in between posing for pictures he
somehow managed to answer all the questions we set before him!
FAVE: You aren't driving your Porsche today, are you back to
the Rolls for good?
BOBBY: Well, though the Porsche is great driving around and I had a ball with it this
summer, the Rolls is still my number one car. Maybe it sounds funny, but I really feel
attached to it. I love to drive it and even though my Porsche makes scooting around town
easier, the Rolls is my first love.
FAVE: When you first bought the Rolls, did anyone
criticize you for being extravagant? How did some of your fans react?
BOBBY: Yes, a lot of people thought I just wanted some sort of status symbol. At first it
hurt me a little, especially once when I heard someone say I probably thought I was a big
shot. It's hard to explain why I bought the Rolls. I always thought they were beautiful
cars and I always dreamed of owning one - driving it, caring for it. I'm not an
extravagant person, and the Rolls is really the only special thing I've bought for myself.
It's my pride and joy. As for my fans, they've loved the Rolls almost as much as I do. I
wish I could take everyone for a ride in it!
FAVE: What's happening now in your life? Any marriage
plans yet?
BOBBY: Right now I've been busy doing concerts. I've been on tour most of the summer. I
cut an album which was just released and I did a commercial for Post cereals. I still
haven't any marriage plans - though some magazines have said I do.
FAVE: What about future plans?
BOBBY: I'm doing a pilot now that will be released as a television movie in the fall. It's
really an interesting program and I'm very excited about it. It's called "Zoom"
and is all about the adventures of a young filmmaker - me!
FAVE: What do you feel you need from marriage?
BOBBY: I think understanding, patience, love, concern, are things marriage should bring,
and happiness. The same things I would want my wife to get from me!
FAVE: Did you do anything special to celebrate your birthday
this summer?
BOBBY: Actually, I was on tour the week of my birthday, but wherever I went all my friends
- all of YOU - greeted me with so much love - that was a celebration itself. When I got
back home I found so many beautiful gifts waiting for me - love beads, handmade cushions,
flowers, wall plaques, drawings - so many, I could go on and on. It was a wonderful
feeling, and 'd like to thank everyone for remembering me, I LOVE YOU!
FAVE: How do you feel about all the photographic sessions
that you have to do? What about the bad pictures other magazines use of you?
BOBBY: Sometimes all the shootings get a little tiring, but it's something that has to be
done. I'm used to it now, so I really don't mind at all! In fact, I just have to think of
all my wonderful fans and I've got to smile! It actually isn't up to me which pictures are
printed in magazines. Sometimes I do see some I don't care for - bad lighting or coloring.
Then I feel that the girls who buy those magazines are being cheated out of their money
and that makes me feel a little sad.
FAVE: Have you had a chance to visit with any of your
friends from "Here Come The Brides"?
BOBBY: You know, the funniest thing happened to me one afternoon. While I was cutting my
third album, I was in town here for a couple of days. I stopped in a drug store to buy
some suntan lotion ( I was hoping I'd get a chance to check out the beach) when I happened
to look up and who should I see in the next aisle but Susan Tolsky! I quietly crept around
behind her and gave the biggest surprise! She was so glad to see me! There we stood in the
aisle, hugging each other and other shoppers looking at us like we were crazy! It was so
funny! She was on her way to Bridget's house so I figured that was worth giving up the
beach for and went along! We had a marvelous lunch and chatted together for a couple of
hours. Other than that, I haven't had a chance to see anyone else, I've been on the road
most of the time
FAVE: How do you think the new TV season looks? Do you
have any program you particularly want to see?
BOBBY: I don't really have too much time for television, and I don't really watch it that
often. I've heard about several new programs that sound really great and I hope I can
check some of them out. I understand they're a lot of groovy newcomers in shows geared for
the younger audience. I think that's wonderful. Most of the movies out today have R
ratings, so I think it's up to TV to provide entertainment for all age groups.
FAVE: How do you think you will feel if the day comes that
you are no longer the number one fave?
BOBBY: Let me put it this way. Everybody has a turn and those on top sometimes must make
way for others. The past two years have been the most wonderful and most exciting of my
life but they've also been the most exhausting! I've loved every minute of it - I've met
the most wonderful people you could ever imagine. I think that's what is the most
important thing. I've made some lasting friendships and have loved so deeply all my
wonderful fans. One thing I do know, though my fans may not always feel exactly the way
they do about me now, they will always have a small place in their hearts for me, just as
I will have for them. I couldn't be happy if I wasn't in show business so I know I will
never leave the field entirely. I hope to continue striving to be a better performer and a
better person.
