Bobby Sherman Answers 50 Intimate ?'s
Bobby shares his private thoughts and secret dreams
with you!
What is your full real name?
My full real name is Robert Cabot Sherman, Jr., but everyone calls me "Bobby".
When and where were you born?
I was born on July 22, 1945, in Santa Monica, Calif.
What is your height, weight and coloring?
I am five feet and nine inches tall, and I weigh 140 pounds. My hair is dark blond
and my eyes are blue.
Family info:
My dad and mom are Bob and Juanita. I have one older sister Darlene, who is married
and has four children. I'm God-father (as well as uncle) to Darlene's son, Bobby.
Where do your parents live?
My folks live in Van Nuys, Calif. That's where I have my own recording studio, which
I started building during my Shindig days.
Where do you live?
I live in my own penthouse apartment in Hollywood, but I'm thinking of moving. Right
now, I'm searching for the right house. I know what I want - but I haven't found it
yet.
Do you have a car?
Yes, my pride and joy is my midnight blue Rolls Royce! I bought it about seven
months ago and I still can't believe it's actually mine. I polish it so often that
I'll probably rub the color right off!
Do you have any pets?
I have a miniature poodle named "Silly", but because I'm not at home enough to
take proper care of my pet, "Silly" lives with my folks.
What was your very first ambition?
Ever since I can remember, I've been fascinated by the world of show business. I
used to pretend that I was a cameraman and built my equipment from empty cardboard boxes.
My interest in music began when I took trumpet lessons.
What kind of music do you like most?
I honestly enjoy all types of music, from classical and jazz to pop. But I guess I
am partial to the music I'm most used to, cos I keep going back to listen to my favorite
artists - who include the Beatles, the Bee Gees, Donovan, Bob Dylan, Aretha Franklin, and
Glen Campbell.
What do you do in your spare time?
I usually spend my spare time in my recording studio, cutting myself as well as other
artists. In fact, I'll have some news for you real soon about my recording career -
and I will probably have a single out very shortly!
What are your hobbies?
Aside from recording in my studio, I'm very interested in photography.
What sports do you like?
I enjoy playing pool and lifting weights to keep in shape.
Can you cook?
I try - and the final result is barely edible!
Would you like to get married?
Yep - I think that would add to my total happiness. But first I have to find the
right person!
How many children would you like to have?
Four - two boys and two girls, to even it up!
What type of girls do you usually find most
attractive?
I'm attracted to all girls, but I'm partial to the honest, intelligent and sincere ones.
What is most important when you meet a girl -
her looks or personality?
Definitely both! Looks may first attract me - but that doesn't necessarily mean that
a girl has to be beautiful. A plain girl who takes care of herself is often more
attractive than a very pretty girl who is sloppy. However, a girl's personality is
the key to a lasting relationship and the clue to what she's really like!
Briefly describe your dream girl.
I haven't dreamt about her yet! I want to meet her first and then dream about her!
What three tips would you give a girl who
wanted you to like her?
I could only give her one - be natural!
What type of girls do you usually dislike?
Phonies - who try to be something they're not!
What would you do if you suddenly came into a
million dollar inheritance?
Invest it wisely, so that I wouldn't have to worry at the age of 65.
Of all the places you've been in America, which
one would you like to go back to? Why?
I think I've been in every major city - and in some you probably don't know exist.
I'm very sentimental and I dig memories, so I think I'd like to go back and see
them all again!
What was the biggest thrill of your life?
Making the decision to go into show business! I had to choose between show business
and becoming a psychologist or an architect. I've never regretted my decision - and
I don't think I ever will.
What was the biggest disappointment?
I don't like to think of a bad experience as a disappointment. I feel that it's more
of a learning period. After all - how do you know what happiness is if you've never
been unhappy?
Who has helped you most with your career?
Many people have been helpful to me, but I would have to give special "thank
you's" to my manager Ward Sylvester and Steve Blauner, V.P. of Screen Gems. I
met Steve when I was on Shindig, and he's the guy who was responsible for getting me the
screen test for Here Come The Brides.
Are you a day or night person?
I used to be a night person, but now it's exactly the opposite. I'm up at six A.M.,
work till seven P.M., and by nine P.M. I'm so tired that I can't keep my eyes open!
How do you relax?
I relax during working hours by going to my dressing room between shots. I furnished
it myself, and it's complete with a TV set, phone and a refrigerator. On days
off, I relax by going out with friends or seeing a good movie.
What kind of clothes do you like to wear when
you're not performing?
I like casual clothes, such as boots, bell-bottom pants and a suede jacket. And for
formal affairs, I like Edwardian suits.
What kind of clothes do you like to see girls
wear?
It depends on the girl. I think each girl should wear whatever looks best on her.
When you give presents to a girl, what do you
usually pick?
Again, that depends on the girl - but it would probably be something personal.
What kind of perfume do you like on a girl?
Something very subtle.
What kind of men's cologne do you use?
I usually use Brute or Canoe.
What is your pet weakness?
Credit cards! It seems so easy to just say "charge it" that I don't bother
to think that I have to pay the bill someday! They really knew what they were doing
when they came up with that idea!
If you were stranded on a desert island, what
three things would you wish for?
First, I would hope that someone would come and get me. If that were possible - then
I would make the following three wishes: Safety, a female companion - and enough
facilities to survive on.
Where do you go to get away from it all?
To my studio - to listen to music or put some ideas down on tape.
What do you daydream about?
Any and everything you can imagine!
What are you afraid of?
Not fulfilling all of my ambitions.
When are you most happy?
When I'm with people I like, when I give a good performance, and when I'm
comfortable - with time to relax and take it easy.
If you weren't in show business, what would you
have done?
I can't really imagine not being in show business - it's my whole life! If
I weren't a performer, I'd work behind the scenes as a cameraman, director, or something
else connected with this field!
What one girl in the whole world would you like
to meet?
I can't think of any one particular girl. I get so many touching letters
from real, sincere girls that I often wonder what it would be like to meet them.
That's why I'm looking forward to going back on the road and having the opportunity of
talking to the people I've only met through letters.
Do you have a secret longing?
Yes, I'd like to someday get married and raise a family!
Have you ever dated a fan?
Yes, several times. I still do!
What do you like to do on a date?
I don't like to plan dates. I enjoy doing so many things. Sometimes,
a day at the beach or Disneyland seems like fun - and other times, I like to go out to
dinner and to a movie.
What kind of people do you enjoy being with?
Fun people. That doesn't mean people who tell jokes - just people who are
fun to be with.
What are your favorite colors, flowers, foods?
I like the color light blue; all flowers - and I'm not too much of an eater, but
I love steaks.
What advice would you give a young person who
would like to make a career in show business?
Timing and hard work have a lot to do with reaching your goal, but I believe that
talent wins out in the long run. So if you really believe in your talent - stay with
it!
What is the most embarrassing thing that's ever
happened to you?
When I was in high school, I played trumpet in a dance band. We were
playing at a prom and it was my stage debut. I started to play my trumpet solo, fell
off the bandstand - and finished the tune from the floor! I'll never forget - the
song was Deep Purple and that was the color of my face too!
Are you a worrier?
Yes, I think so. It's good to worry sometimes - as long as you don't overdo
it and worry too much!
Do you read your fan mail?
Yes! I try to answer as much of it as possible. I'd like to hear from
you, so if you have a minute - write to me at ABC-TV, Hollywood, Calif.
