Announcer: In the late 1960's and early 70's, after a stint on the rock TV show Shindig and later on Here Come The Brides, Bobby Sherman became one of the pop kings of bubblegum rock with top ten singles, gold records, sell out concerts and scores of shirtless Teen Beat posters. But now at age 47, it's Bobby Sherman to the rescue! The pretty boy teen dream of yester-year has traded in show biz for real life dramas. For the past five years Sherman has been working as a volunteer emergency medical technician in California and teaches first aid to police officers.
 

Bobby: It's better than Grammies and Emmies and Oscars and all that because it's real life. A lot more people are coming up to me and saying, 'I heard you're out there as an EMT and you're saving people's lives', and all of a sudden it's like they're not talking to a teenage idol.
Announcer: Do you miss that mass hysteria?
Bobby: It's not mass hysteria that I miss. It's really the fans themselves. It's not that they were screaming that made the difference. It's the fact that they were there.
 

Announcer: While you may think that teen idol-dom is just kid stuff, even at 23 Bobby Sherman knew it was big business and didn't rebel against his sugar coated, all-American image that he admits was manufactured.
Bobby: I did understand later on what the manufacturing was all about, but at that point I was certainly smart enough to know not to shoot the goose that laid the golden egg.
 

Announcer: And boy was it golden. While many artists of that era have felt ripped off, Sherman says by the mid-70's, he was financially set for life. And unlike many other ex-teen idols, Bobby isn't waiting around for his big comeback. Let's say you never recorded another new album or you never got a chance to act again, would it be okay with you or would you be very frustrated?
Bobby: Not at all, my life is very full.
