Some of Carolyn's African Violets.   She likes to turn the kitchen into a potting shed periodically, babying these and other indoor flora

Deer on Lawn

Deer browsing on our lawn.
Many people think that because New Jersey is the most densely populated state it must be carpeted with asphalt and concrete.  While that may be close to the truth in certain parts of the state, it isn't true of this area.   Last year, over 11,000 deer were taken with bow and shotgun here in Hunterdon County alone.

Piebald Deer

In the fall of '97, we noticed this peculiar doe among the herd.   She's not an albino, but a Piebald. Piebald deer have patches of white hair but are otherwise normally colored. They're sometimes referred to as pintos.

A 1999/2000 survey determined that there were 212 deer per square mile, compared to a human population of 280 people per square mile in the county.

Brazen Buck

The middle of July, 1999.  I caught this guy bedded down just outside the front door, after he'd eaten all of Carolyn's peonies.

Who needs a gun - I could've taken him down with a a solid kick, he was so unmoved by my presence.   With four points in velvet as early in the year as July, someone's likely to be happy to take him come hunting season.

The gray cat who came to live with us.

Carolyn named him Ascot.

Giff calls him everything but.

Cat Cancun During the cold winter, a south-facing window provides a sunny spot from which to gaze upon the world, surrounded by tropical foliage - a sort of Cancun for cats.
