About The Theatre

The concept of a live action theatre that presents South Carolina history (performed by ghosts!) was over 10 years in the making. Designs were developed and revisions were numerous as various challenges arose in dealing with the 'spirits!'

Every technical system within the building was designed specifically for Ghosts and Legends Theatre, from the cleverly hidden lighting to the invisible surround sound speakers. The unique intimate setting puts the audience right in the middle of the action. The entire room is the stage, with the performance surrounding the audience.

While live entertainment theatres have long been a popular Myrtle Beach pastime, you've never seen a show like the one at Ghosts and Legends Theatre at Barefoot Landing. This show's "stars" don't sing, dance or do comedy routines. Instead, you'll find them slamming doors, firing cannons, slipping through keyholes, or warning of impending storms while revealing their colorful, and often tragic, stories. What you see and hear will be remembered long after your vacation is over.

Designed specifically to reflect the history and traditions of South Carolina's Lowcountry, this unique attraction showcases tales of the area's most popular ghosts along with local folklore. Through the use of dazzling special effects, an original musical score and storytelling in the best southern tradition, the folks at Ghosts and Legends Theatre bring the Grand Strand's colorful past to life. (It's actually educational...but don't tell the kids!)

Seated in the authentically decorated old-fashioned southern parlor, you'll hear about beautiful Alice of the Hermitage, surely the coast's most well-known ghost. Though you may be familiar with her story, you've never seen it quite this way.

There's also the brigand Blackbeard, a notorious pirate who sailed the coast of the Carolinas, plundering and terrorizing the innocent. Could he have buried treasure hereabouts?

Learn, too, about the bad ol' boo hag and the Gray Man who roams the coast when hurricanes threaten.

This unforgettable theatrical experience is the creation of Terry and Oliver Holler, theatre veterans who came to Myrtle Beach to work for other productions. Once here, they began to learn about the rich history of the area and became intrigued with the idea of bringing the most interesting of the local ghosts and legends to life. They began collecting stories and artifacts and, when the time was right, commissioned top designers, special effects engineers and creative talents to bring their dream to fruition.

The special effects alone are worth the price of admission! Technical director Mark Spivey, who has worked for Disney, Universal and others, has designed illusions that will have you believing that a fierce hurricane really IS howling just outside the door. In this intimate setting which seats just 55 people per performance, that's no small feat.

The show schedule and ticket prices at Ghosts and Legends are family-friendly. Shows are offered every 30 minutes throughout the day and evening, and with ticket prices under $10, it'll be the biggest and most enjoyable bargain of your trip.

New additions now include the Low Country Seance and the Myrtle Beach Ghost Walk.
