Using The Birder's Notebook in conjunction with The Birder's Explorer is similar to using the 'Favourites' function in Internet Explorer to save links to indivdual pictures, videos or sound tracks. The difference is that all of the links are organized by species and can be organized in area checklists so that even when you have several thousands of them they will still be highly accessible.

Photo images delivered via the web are almost always standard JPG files and, again almost always, if you can see the image in your computer browsers window this means that it has already been downloaded by the site onto your computer. This means that if you know where the image is on your computer all you have to do is to move it to where you want it to go - no copying is involved.

The same applies to many audio and video links: if you have played them, they are on your computer for at least the number of days you specify your browser should maintain its History list. The only exception to this are Streaming Audio and Streaming Video clips - (usually Real Media). The Birder's Notebook supports playing of Real Media, Real Audio, Quicktime and Windows movie clips and you can save a link to a streaming media file in the same was as you can for other links.
