New Works planned ...

New works are planned for the coming season: Tiger Psalms, a setting of texts by British poet Ted Hughes, for soprano Elise Caluwaerts and the Chicago-based new music ensemble Fulcrum Point; and a double concerto, for guitar and violin, for Duo46, to be premiered in Washington, D.C., by the Great Noise Ensemble, on 5 December 2009. More details to follow on both.

Concert Artists Guild commission ...

The Concert Artists Guild (CAG), in collaboration with Meet the Composer, have commissioned a new work for the Parker String Quartet. Ink on Paper, a five movement work referencing the visual arts tradition of identifying a work by its medium, will premiere at Symphony Space, in New York City, 21 May 2009. Composer Geoffrey Gordon will speak briefly about this new work, as well as the working process behind the inaugural Composer/Performer Collaborations project, just prior to the performance, on a program to be called From Sketch to Sound.

Boston Modern Orchestra Project premiere ...

The Boston Modern Orchestra Project (BMOP) and conductor Gil Rose will give the world premiere performance of Shock Diamonds, commissioned on their behalf through Meet the Composer, on 22 May 2009--Jordan Hall, in the New England Conservatory of Music, Boston. Program notes, from BMOP's Robert Kirzinger, may be found here: Shock Diamonds.

Aaron Copland Award ...
LCM Artists Management is pleased to announce that Geoffrey Gordon has been selected to receive the 2009 Aaron Copland Award, and will serve as a composer in residence at the Copland House, Aaron Copland's restored, longtime home in New York's Lower Hudson Valley, beginning in January, 2009.  These are highly coveted opportunities to live and work in an extraordinary creative environment, and to become a part of the great music legacy of this US landmark.

Abelson Foundation Prize ...

As the inaugural winner of the Abelson Foundation Prize, organized and administered by the Chicago Composers Forum, Geoffrey Gordon has been commissioned to write a new work for voice and mixed chamber ensemble.  Fallen Eve, after texts by British poet Ted Hughes and scored for mezzo soprano, flute, clarinet, violin, cello, one percussion and piano, will premiere, in Chicago, as part of the International Contemporary Ensemble's (ICE) 2005-06 season. Additional performances, in Paris and Washington, DC, will be featured as part of a collaboration between Ensemble Aleph and the Contemporary Music Forum, in early 2006.

Barlow Commission ...

The Barlow Endowment has awarded Geoffrey Gordon a commission as part of the 2004 adjudications.  A new work for the Cyprus-based Duo46, in residence at Eastern Mediterranean University, will premiere during the 2005-06 season. Fancywork, scored for guitar and violin,  takes inspiration from the colonial American aesthetic movement of the same name.
