Our Tennessee and Tar Heel Roots

When I retired several years ago, after the children and grandchildren asking many times about their family tree, I began work with Genealogy. Needless to say, I became hooked. However, because of the illness of my husband, I had to take some time off to nurse him. I am trying to become involved again.

These pages contain a portion of what I've learned. Hopefully, you will find something here of benefit to you.

In June 2002, we lost my husband, Pappy, and our favorite storyteller, a racanteur of note, I've realized more fully the importance of either recording or writing down of stories, as they are told. Tom would not let us record him and as hard as we try, it is impossible to remember all the stories. You think you will; but you won't.

Remember: Write it down or record it.

I am searching the following family names in Tennessee

Douglas, Summers, and Tolliver in Bedford, Cannon, Coffee, Davidson, Rutherford and Warren Counties
Henry and Martin in Putnam, Smith, Van Buren, Warren, and White Counties

They are Scotch-Irish people who came to Tennessee from Virginia, Maryland, and North Carolina most of them remaining in Tennessee however some went West to Arizona, Oklahoma, and Texas .

All surnames in Pat's Family Tree

Our children, like a great many nowadays, have extended families. Since these pages are for their benefit, I felt this was the least confusing way to include all. We are searching for these families:

Cheffer and Reginier in Illinois
Parnell and Raney in Humphreys and Perry Counties Tennessee
The Cheffers are French-Canadian and Indian. The Raney's are Irish.

We are also searching for Tom's ancestoral family. Tom's people also came over from Scotland and have been found in North and South Carolina as well as Virginia. Our ancesters left Scotland at the same time the Douglas Clan did and intermarried. We've wondered sometimes if we are distantly related. Maybe we'll find out.

Vance:  Samuel, Matthew, Lewis, and Thomas Beauregard
of the Toe River Valley, North Carolina
Ray: Jesse and Thomas Jefferson (T J) of the mountains of North Carolina

 Surnames in Tom's Family Tree
This includes Avery, Dellinger, Franklin, Morphew, Ray, and Wiseman

Surnames in both trees and related famlies

I have gleaned some of the family files for the individual family. These do not contain all of the correlated families. A few of them have gedcoms which can be downloaded and are PAF files. My genealogy time has been limited and I haven't been able to do this for all families. Maybe they will be helpful to some of you.
