Will of Anthony Ribble of Warren Co., New Jersey

State of New Jersey
Warren County: Before me, on the fifth day of December, in the year of our Lord, one thousand eight hundred and twenty seven, personally appeared David Ribble and Daniel Swayze Esq., Executors of Anthony Ribble, deceased, who being duly sworn on the Evangelists of Almighty God say that the following writing contains the true last will and testament of said deceased, so far as they know, and as they verily believe. That they will faithfully perform the same by paying first the debts of said deceased, and then the legacies therein specified as far as the goods, chattels, and credits of said deceased can thereunto extend. That they will make and exhibit unto the surrogates office of the said county of Warren, a true and perfect inventory of all and singular, the goods, chattels, and credits of said deceased, that have or shall come to their knowledge or possession and render a just and true account of their administration, when thereunto lawfully required.

Warren County: Before me on the fifth day of December in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and twenty seven, personally appeared Gershom Bartau(?) one of the witnesses to the forgoing will, who being duly sworn on the Evangelists of Almighty God saith that he saw the said testator sign the will and testament, that at the doing thereof the said testator was of sound and disposing mind and memory so far as the deponent knows and as he surely believes and that Ezekiel Oaks and Andrew Ribble the other subscribing witnesses were present at the same time and signed their names as witnesses together with the deponent in the presence of the said testator.

Will

In the name of God, amen, I Anthony Ribble of the township of Knowlton, County of Warren and state of Newjersey being aged and infirm but of perfect sound mind and memory, and calling to mind the mortality of my body and knowing that it is appointed unto all men time to die, do make, constitute, and ordain this my last will and testament in way and manner as follows -

First, I bequeath my soul to the God who gave it and my body to the earth to be decently buried at the discretion of my Executors whom I shall hereafter appoint and as touching my worldly estate, what God hath left me with, I give, devise, and bequeath in way and manner following,
to wit: (that is) my will and order that all my just debts and funeral expense be paid as soon as may be convenient after my decease -
3.I give and bequeath unto the children of my two sons which are deceased to wit, George Ribble and John Ribble, eighty dollars to be equally divided among them, share and share alike - to be paid to them by me executors two years after my decease.
4. I give, devise, and bequeath unto my surviving children, Eve Sebring, James Ribble, William Ribble, Henry Ribble, Moses Ribble and David Ribble, Rebekah Thornton, Elizabeth Shannon, Phebe Hall, Abigail Burley and Catharine Allison, the residue and remaining part of my estate both real and personal, to be divided among them, share and share alike - though it is my will and order that my two daughters Rebekah Thornton and Elizabeth Shannon shall have the use and enjoyment of the dividend that shall come to them of my estate, during their natural lives, and at their decease, descend to their children, share and share alike.
5. It is my will and order that my executors shall cause my personal property to be appraised as soon as may be convenient after my decease and sold at publick sale - and after the payment of my debts, and expenses, the residue to be divided among my children above named, equally, share and share alike within one year after my decease.
It is my will and order that all my lands shall remain undisturbed in the hands of my executors for the term of three years after my decease, and then to be divided among my children above named or sold as they may think most proper - nevertheless, it is my will that the rents of my land before sold, as it is my will they should be rented the limited terms before sold or divided, shall be equally divided yearly among my above named children.
I nominate David Ribble and Daniel Swayze executors of this my last will and testament. In witness thereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this eighth day of December, the year of our Lord AD 1823
