To the sheriff of Hopkins County Greetings
We command you to summon Elijah Good (note - also have it as
Elijah Grace ?) and William H. Bunton to appear before the Judge of our
Hopkins Circuit Court at the court house in Madisonville on the 1st day
of our next March term to testify and the truth to say, in behalf of the
Commonwealth in a certain matter of controversy in our said court depending
and undetermined between the commonwealth plaintiff and William McGregor
and Jeremiah Chappell defendants and this they shall in no wise omit, under
the penalty of one hundred pounds each and have them there this writ. witness
Sam Woodson Clk. of said court at the Court House aforesaid this 12 th
day of September 1828 and in the 37th year of the Commonwealth

Greetings we command you that you summon William McGregor and
Jeremiah Chappell yeomen (farmers who ones a small farm) to appear before
the Judge of our Hopkins Circuit Court at the Court House in the town of
Madisonville on the first day of our next March term to beheld for
said Circuit to answer the Commonwealth aforesaid touching an indictment
found against them on the 5th day of August 1828 at the Hopkins Circuit
making an Affray (quarrel) by them and there fighting and striving together
in a public place in a large concourse of people and there and that assaulting,
beating, bruising and ill treating each other.
Contrary to the form of the statute in such case made and provided
and against the peace and dignity of the Commonwealth aforesaid and have
then there this writ.
Witness Samuel Woodson clerk of our said Court at the court house
aforesaid this 12th day of September 1828 and in the 37th year of the Commonwealth.

Commonwealth of Kentucky Hopkins County and Circuit Court
Circuit Court September term Eighteen Hundred and Twenty Nine
- The jurors of the grand jury impaneled charged and sworn to inquire in
and for the County and Circuit aforesaid upon their oaths aforesaid in
the name and by the authority of the Commonwealth aforesaid present that
William McGregor and Jeremiah Chappell both of said County yeoman (farmers
who owns a small farm) at county and circuit aforesaid on the fifth day
of August in the year of our Lord Eighteen Hundred and Twenty Eight with
force and arms did make and affray, by them and there fighting and striving
together in a public place in a large concourse of people and did then
and there beat, bruise, and ill treat each other, contrary to the form
of the statute in such case made and provided, and against the peace and
dignity of the Commonwealth aforesaid. Information given by Elijah
Good and William H. Burton both of the grand jury.

Commonwealth of Ky., Hopkins County and Circuit Court
Circuit Court September Term 1828 --- the Jurors of the grand
jury impaneled charged and sworn to inquire upon their oath of said present
that William McGregor late of said County yeoman (farmers who owns
a small farm) at the County Circuit aforesaid on the 5th day of August
1828 did profanely swear one profane Oath by profanity using the word “God
Damn” contrary to the form of the statute in such case made, providable
information by John Jackson not of the jury but of said county.
