Patricia divorced her first husband in 1966. The children of thismarriage were raised by Thomas Samuel Vance and treated as if they werehis. They think of Tom as their "Pappy" which is what they call him.Anything Pappy says goes.

Obituary of Junior Vance (Thomas Beauregard Vance, Jr)
(This is Pappy's father, he was called Junior all his life)PLUMTREE - Junior Vance, 77, of Plumtree, died Wednesday in a Crossnorehospital. Vance, an Avery County native, was the son of the late ThomasB. and Sarah Wiaenaan Vaace. He was a retired merchant.
Surviving are a son. Tommy Vance of Nashville, Tenn.; and a sister EthelWhitaker of Plumree. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in PlumtreePresbyterian Church, of which he was a member. The Rev. Wallace Wisewill oficiatete. Burial will be in Yellow Mountain Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at WebbFuneral Home in Spruce Pine. The body will be placed in the church anhour before the services.
Phyllis died as the result of an automobile wreck, on Sunday, May 25,1880. She was crushed between two cars, while parked on the side of theroad. She and some friends were trying to jump her car off after itstalled. A boy, who was smoking pot, "didn't see the two cars" andslammed into them. She lived four hours after the accident.Her motherwas with her and suffered a crushed ankle besides having her heart brokenby losing her "blue-eyed" baby.
