Bea is a gg. granddaughter ofLidge F. & Nancy 2 CONT (THOMAS) HENRY as we are, but through George W. HENRY b. 1841. I firstlearned of it 2 CONT from Wilbert WHITAKER, when he took me to HENRY CEMETERY in 1971: 2 CONT 2 CONT THE DEATH OF LIDGE F. HENRY 2 CONT 2 CONT "Family talk says that Lidge F. was married twice after Nancy died in1888. At the time of hi 2 CONC s death he was living with his daughter LuranaJACKSON at the foot of the mountain. We thin 2 CONC k it was the original home-place on the CALFKILLER, where HENRY CEMETERY is now, and that Lur 2 CONC ana andher husband, James, had moved in with Lidge after he became too old towork." 2 CONT 2 CONT "About a week before his death, his daughter-in-law, Rachel, told herhusband, George W. HENRY 2 CONC , and son, Lidge Fine, that 'Sane-thing hashappened to your Pa. ... .you need to go see abou 2 CONC t him' . As Rachel wasknown to be able to ' see ', or have premonitions, they rode down them 2 CONC ountain to see him. No one was home except Lidge F. They found him upin the barn loft, wher 2 CONC e he had removed several planks from the loftfloor. George W. asked his father what he was 2 CONT doing. Lidge muttered something about 'fixing the floor'. G. W. waitedfor his sister, Luran 2 CONC a, to return, and then visited with her a while. Ashe was leaving he told her, 'Keep an ey 2 CONC e on Pa -- he's acting a littlepeculiar'." 2 CONT 2 CONT "A few days later, Lurana had to visit a neighbor, and left her teenagedaughter to watch ove 2 CONC r the baby and her grandfather. At some point Lidgetold his granddaughter he was 'going to t 2 CONC he barn',and thinking he wasgoing to the outhouse, she got busy with the baby and forgot abou 2 CONC t him." 2 CONT 2 CONT Lidge evidently "went up in the barn loft, threw a rope over the rafterabove where he had rem 2 CONC oved the floor planks, tied the rope around hisneck, and stepped into the hole he had made... 2 CONC " 2 CONT 2 CONT That's the way they found him. The date, according to his tombstone, was23 Aug., 1895. He wa 2 CONC s buried, of course, next to his wife, Nancy, atHENRY CEMETERY. 2 CONT 2 CONT He was 73 years old. 2 CONT * * * 2 CONT No doubt Lidge's children contemplated this event for a long time -- aswe, his g.g. grandchil 2 CONC dren, are left to do...
