A note from Billy Sherrell dated Feb 3, 1999 says: "my mother-in-law
Mamie Burks is the g-daugher of Mary Adine (Bryant's sister) said she
seemed to have not doubt that Rodham Douglas, was the father of Bryant.
Her sister agreed.

A note from Billy Sherrell dated Feb 6, 1999 says that a grandaughter of
Joseph (Bryant's brother) told Lou that Rodham and a brother came to
Tennessee from Virginia and bought land in Coffee/Rutherford Counties. My
thinking is that this brother is Thomas b. 1780

There is also a listing for Rodman Douglas in Ross, Kinfolks, p. 132
"Deed Bk. M-2 144. 23 Oct 1823 Johnathan Taylor of JoCo to Ezekiel

Also, Meldrum p. 23.lists "Rhodham Douglas to Patty Harrell 20 Nov 1802
. Bdsm Rhodham Douglas and Francis Harrell." Hope some of this helps.

2/23/2000: Received a call from Jean Douglas Van Meter Siemens. She is
the grandaughter of James Bryant Douglas and is supposed to send info.
She says Rodham, son of Joseph? is the father of Bryant Douglas b 1811

Abstract Record Book 7, page 36
An indenture was made the 22nd second day of May 1829 with Thomas
Douglass son of Rodham Douglass. Thomas is 17 years, 10 months and 22
days. (born June 10, 1812) and he has agreed to work with James McDowel
and learn the trade of carpenter, and house joiner, to learn the arts
trade and and mystery of the trade. Thomas and Rodham Douglass signed
it. Source: Marty Smotherman Mendez, 1/12/1899 Let's check James
McDowel on 1830 census. See if Thomas is there. Tom says as a general
rule when someone was apprenticed, they lived with the one they were
apprenticed to.

From Jean Douglas Siemens:
[quote] Bryant and Mary are just outside the iron fence. Possibly those
graves could be marked[endquote] This information was given to Jean by
Billy Douglass.
[quote]A few stories have been handed down about our oldest known
Douglass ancestor. He is known to have come from Virginia about 1800,
and is listed in the first Rutherford County census of 1810. It has been
told that he brought himself and wife by 2 wheel cart hitched to milk
cows. We don't know if ther were any children. There had to be others
in the party - reference has been made to "red trash" - don't know the
meaning to this unelss it was to Irish - usually disliked by Scotsmen[end
quote] PAT'S NOTE: It is my thinking, Rodham brother Joseph was in the
party. I also believe this Rodham was the son of the Rodham listed on
the 1790 Richmond County, Virginia census, who was the son of John. All
of my research, thus far, supports this belief especially the will of
John.
