Gas Chromatography Web
The slightly irreverent guide to the world of Gas Chromatography and Analytical Chemistry.
I've taken time from my busy life and have done the surfing for you, this hopefully will save you time as you look for resources available on the internet (Actually I found most of these sites while goofing off). Many of these sites have provided me with valuable information, others are good examples of what a really lame web page looks like. I have added my comments as to how valuable the information is at each site. If you agree with my comments, then they are my own, if not, they belong to someone else. Please feel free to e-mail me any good sites you have found, and I will consider adding them to the list.
I use GCs in the field of refining and petrochemicals. It's entirely possible that my links are biased to this area. Let me know what you think about the button links.
NEW! NEW! NEW! ....So new there is no button yet! Travels with My GC
What in the wide wide world of sports is G.C.???
- Analytical Science on-line learning Wonderful place to start learning about GC - highly recommended reading.
- Introduction to GC - EPA version Slightly dry.
- University of Akron lecture series Nice slides. Kick back and enjoy with a nice frosty one.
- Start GC introduction page This is the place to start
- From an environmental bent nicely laid out
- J and W Ask the eternal question - what is GC?
- English and Spanish version available here
Instrument manufacturers
- Links to Portable GC and GC/MS instrument supplier sites
- Varian I don't use them, but maybe you do, or would like to.
- Agilent My instrument of choice.
- Carle Haven't used one of these dinosaurs in a along time.
- CE instruments Ciao baby! The ex-Carlo Erba.
- Shimadzu north america I've seen one. Yes, here in the USA, I've seen one.
- Anti-Shimadzu Rather scathing, rather comprehensive. I personally don't know much about it, but makes for interesting reading
- Perkin Elmer Now why are these folks last on the list? huh....why?
Add-on Solutions
- OI I've used the PFPD. Nice and stable for an on-line application
- VICI PDD Valco Pulsed Discharge Detector
- Sievers The original sulfur chemiluminescence detector.
- Antek Sulfur and nitrogen detectors
- ATAS Programmable Injection system. Nice web page design.
- Gerstel Large-volume injectors
Applications
- AC Analytical Controls Custom GC applications for refining/petrochemical business. Beware the olefin trap!
- Diablo analytical Custom AED applications
- CIC applications cute chromatograms to look at
- Microanalytics Are you looking for an automatic vapor injecting system for LPGs? Well are you?
- Research Institute for Chromatography Belgian method development group. Did I get this right?
- Separation Systems Petroleum industry applications
Chromatography Software
- LC resources What's in a name? I don't like LC anymore than the next person. Ignore the name, they have many interesting products. Check out ChromMerge.
- Justice Laboratory Software Gave this one a try in the field. Easy to use. Hooked my laptop through a serial interface to an HP5890. It's the end of docking stations with HPIB boards!
- HP Chemstation The ubiquitous chemstation! Seems to improve every release, but never gets very easy.
Informational resources
- Start GC Excellent comprehensive overview. This site has come a long way in a short time. Keep an eye on it.
- Prof. Aviv Amirav's home page Excellent PFPD overview. Also, introduction to Electrolyzer powered Flame Ionization Detector (EFID)
- Chromforum Leading chromatography discussion group
- Chromtalk Post your questions and answers
- Flame photometric detector basics That's a nice FPD you got there pal
- Photo ionization detector basics
- Atomic emmision detector Excellent basic introduction, mercifully brief
- Analytical Movies! Requires quicktime to view. Pretty cool
- 5890 Series II how to Lot's of pictures of a 5890
- GC pneumatic systems Loads of things at this site, back up and look at all of it when you have time.
- Introduction to electronics Not specifically GC, but this information sure comes in handy
- Instrumental analysis statistical excersises Again, not specifically GC, but this information sure comes in handy
High Speed GC
- Tony Borgerding's page on High Speed GC University of North Dakota
- Richard D. Sacks' thoughts on high speed GC University of Michigan
- High Speed GC using Solid Phase Microextraction (SPME) Canadians get in on the act
Magazines
- LC/GC magazine Can be OK if the article applies to your field.
- ISC online .
Conferences
- Gulf Coast Conference Forget Pittsburgh for hydrocarbon work! See you there in 1999
- my 1998 accomplishment maybe more than you needed to know
User Groups
- Western Carolinas Chromatography Discussion Group Nothin' could be finah
Supplies (parts is parts)
- Used lab equipment Would you buy a used GC from that guy?
- Alltech Right here in the midwest
- Chrompack Find myself using them more and more. Cutting edge columns. Judy - thanks for the polo shirt!
- J&WUsed to use them quite a bit when capillary column technology first started taking off.
- SGE nothing to say at this time....hmm, that was something anyway, wasn't it?
- Supelco
- Restek I don't know where I'd be without their Silcosteel tubing. A must when setting up analyzers for polar compounds.
- Swagelok fittings You got to have the right fitting
- Valco valves Best stuff since sliced bread
