Links to More Nellie Bly Information

The very first publication of the Nellie Bly game appears to have been as a page in the New York World.
The board game was published by the McLoughlin Brothers in 1890 and subsequent versions seem to have been produced at least into the 1920s. I would welcome more specific and accurate information from game collectors, since this information is based on looking at the games and deducing the age. Most versions include the copyright date of 1890, but were actually produced later.

In the earliest version, the game board was built into the bottom of the box.

Later the game was published with a folded board.
Telephone poles sprang up behind Nellie Bly as time went by.

Still other versions of the game showed the cities she had visited.

One early version published by J.H. Singer shows a stylized version of Nellie Bly in elaborate clothing that was nothing like what she actually wore on the trip.

Still later, she appeared in more stylish clothing - around 1920, perhaps.
Earlier versions of the red cover were published by McLoughlin Brothers, but a simliar looking game was published later by Milton Bradley.

Although she traveled long before flight, a plane appeared in the sky behind her.

The most recent version I've seen is a miniature replica that was sold on eBay in 2003. | | | | | | |
