This is the no-longer-in-existence race start photo stand.

My father is in the middle row towards the far end and to the left of the guy taking pictures of what I presume to be the Goodyear blimp. Note the two guys in the lower right of the shot. The guy in the red jacket and hat will end up in the pace car's front seat. You'll see the guy to his left later too.
