For 2009-2010 season, the SASL is looking for new teams to start the
SASL Legends League, Connecticut's premier Over-48 league. The Legends League would become Over-49 in 2010-2011
and ultimately a true Over-50 league in 2011-2012.
Teams who want to drop from the Masters League into the new Over-48 "Legends League" must inform the
SASL Executive Board before June 30, 2009.
New teams applying to join the Over-48 "Legends League" must have outfield players at least 48-years
old. Goalkeepers may be 45-years old.
New teams to the SASL should consider applying for 2009-2010
season. Applications should be sent to the League Secretary by no later than July 31, 2009. Applications forms may be found here.
Please use the Over-40 application for now, but clearly identify that you are applying to join the Over-48 league.
The SASL Legends League will ultimately evolve into a true Over-50 league for players and teams who enjoy competitive
soccer. Scores and standings (league tables) will be recorded and maintained. You will be able to find them here
at any time at saslsoccer.com!
The Shoreline Adult Soccer League is Connecticut's premier Over-30 league in the number of teams, divisions, quality
of players and quality of teams. It currently contains many Over-30, Over-40 and even Over-50 and Over-60 players
who thrive
on competitive soccer
The SASL also has a competitive Over-40 league, the SASL
Masters League. This league has evolved at a tremendous rate
and is now the premier Over-40 league in Connecticut. It has players in the Over-40, Over-50 and even the Over-60
bracket.
In time, the SASL Legends League will also expand at a tremendous rate as these older SASL players begin to filter
through in the next few years. Players can only fight nature for so long as they lose a few steps of speed here
or there, the weight is harder to get off as the years roll by, the number of injuries increase -- and take longer
to heal -- and the body can no longer do what the mind wants! But, the skills are still there -- and so is that competitive
streak in most of us. It is inevitable, then, that as it
gets tougher and tougher to compete with "young" Over-30 and Over-40 players that a player in his 50s
or beyond will want to spend less time on his Over-30 or Over-40 team's bench and keep playing and spending more
time on the football pitch competing with fellow players in his own age group.
Currently the SASL Legends League is a First Division. In the future as more teams are added there will be a Second and Third
Division added, at least. The longer you wait, the lower down the league you will have to start from.
Teams are acceptable from anywhere. The SASL Over-30 League and SASL Masters League are currently spread all over
Connecticut.
So, then, what is more fun? Riding the bench on your Over-30 team or Over-40 team or playing more often? Playing what
amounts to friendlies every week, or watching your progress and measuring your team against others with scores
and standings?
Get organised now, we need Over-48 teams NOW to grow the SASL Legends League. Come and join the next revolution in Connecticut
soccer history.
Cheers,
- Garry Archer (SASL Executive Board)
