Surrounding Areas
Fukuoka, Gannosu,
Saitozaki, Shikanoshima

and others

Hakata Administration Annex, Fukuoka, and the surrounding area were all part of Fukuoka Prefecture. The emblem, above left is that of the prefecture, and the flag, above right, is the prefecture's flag. The symbol is that of the plum flower and stands for harmony and progress of the people.

Some of the surrounding areas were closely related and/or important to Camp Hakata/Brady Air Base. Fukuoka was the big city, and also housed Itazuke Air Base. Gannosu and Saitozaki served as off-base housing, as well as servicing GIs in other ways. Gannosu also housed the local orphanage that the base helped support, and an airfield used early in the base's history. While Shikanoshima was a local resort area used by GIs and the Japanese people. Other areas, both inside and out of Fukuoka Prefecture, were also often visited by GIs.
