Quigley Down Under

Tom Selleck gives the boldest performance of his career in this "new style, revisionist western with the panoramic scope of a movie epic" (Los Angeles Times). Fierce gunfights, forbidding landscapes, breakneck chases - all hallmarks of the classic western - are reinvented in this hard-pounding actioner that "revitalizes the genre" and comes out "a sure winner" (The Hollywood Reporter). Arriving in Australia with nothing more than a saddle and his prized six-foot Sharps rifle, American sharpshooter Matthew Quigley thinks he's been hired to kill wild dogs. But when he realizes, instead, that his mission is murder - to "eliminate" the Aborigines from a wealthy cattle baron's land - Quigley refuses and quickly turns from hunter to hunted. Forced to wage a savage war against his former employer, Quigley proves that no one gets the best of a steely-eyed American gunfighter - no one, that is, except the mysterious beauty (Laura San Giacomo, sex, lies & videotape) who rides by his side and captures his heart.

Fort Apache The Bronx

In a bombed-out wasteland stands a police station - less a precinct house than a fort in hostile territory. Outside its walls are the murders, the riots, the drugs, and the everyday lives that texture the bleak urban landscape. Inside, amidst corruption and indifference, each officer does what he must to survive his tour of duty in Fort Apache, The Bronx. This controversial, hard-hitting feature stars Paul Newman as the tough, tired Officer Murphy. His performance sets the tone of a film which moves from reality to romance, from comedy to great desolation of spirit, from demoralization to hope. A rewarding dramatic experience.

Wyatt Earp - Special expanded edition.

When Kevin Costner asked me to direct a film about Wyatt Earp, I became excited about trying to tell the Earp story in a fuller, more realistic and historically accurate way than had been told before on screen. I also thought Costner, with whom I went back a long way, had reached the perfect age and place to play Earp, a dicey and controversial figure. Wyatt Earp was a labor of love for many people, inspiring some career-best work from many of the actors, design team and production crew. This Special Expanded Edition, about three-and-a-half hours long, features 20 minutes of material that I elected for reasons of story progression not to include in the Theatrical Version. I had real affection for this material, which added nicely to the portrait of Wyatt and to the lyrical sweep of the film. Moments to watch for include a wagon train scene with young Wyatt and his mother, an expanded wedding sequence, an encounter with Sioux horsemen, the jailing of Wyatt and Doc, and much more. - Lawrence Kasdan, Los Angeles, Spring 1995.
