The Friends of McKinley Park Library, is a proud partner in Chicago's
Adopt-A-Street program. The organization has adopted the streets surrounding the library, as well as the library grounds, and, as such, "watches over" the well-being of the area.
Any items which need attention, are reported to the proper city department for remediation. Often, the members themselves pitch in to remedy the situation. In this effort, the members join together with the community in sharing with the city the responsibilities for the well-being of the neighborhood. A good time is always had by all. Homemade cakes and fresh brewed coffee are served during breaks. All this volunteer activity, allows city crews to concentrate on matters which are beyond the scope of volunteers. The work also helps to bring community members together, in yet another common goal. Additional volunteers are always sought, and are most welcome!. |
