Friday - June 8, 2001

A first for me, I was selected as one of ten CBS Weathercasters to appear on the David Letterman Show.  So many friends have asked how this all took place, that I decided it was best to just put a little section on my webpage.

In early May the Letterman Show contacted us to see if I would want to participate in taping a Top 10 segment.  The plan was to have a Top 10 list on the show during May...the "Top 10 Things You Hope You Never Hear Your Weathercaster Say On Television."

We still don't know how KRTV was selected from all the CBS affiliates. I would like to think it's because David Letterman has mountain property about 50 miles from Great Falls. So that means when Dave is in-state I must be his local weatherman!

Of course I said yes, even though I was nervous about what their writers would want me to say. In a couple of days 4 scripts arrived that were to be taped 3 times each and the tape sent to New York. It took two days to get it done to our satisfaction.

The end result was being #6 on the Top 10 list show aired Friday, June 8, 2001. A short personal thank you note from David Letterman himself was waiting for me at the station Monday morning! It was fun and also at the same time nerve wracking. One of the lines even had me taking my shirt off on-camera! The show's producers tell us that was the other take they were seriously looking at, before finally settling on the actual cut used.

Copyright laws won't let me post the Top Ten as aired here, but if you go to CBS Late Show With David Letterman selection you can find the archives there. Just lookfor June 8, 2001 and you can read it there!

    Best wishes,
