They Deserve to be Remembered.

They were involved in some twenty two engagements. They died by the score of disease and on the battlefield. Some of them marched barefooted in the snow in Kentucky. For some, it was "not uncommon" to stand from midnight till dawn in water above their knees in the trenches at Vicksburg. At the final surrender, by one estimate, only one in six was left.

Yet, you will not find their battle flag in any museum. You will not find photographs of them in their youth with their new uniforms and weapons.  Few have heard of their most desperate battle whose site is only marked by a small plaque, often overgrown.

The author and webmasterMy name is Michael Kimball and this site is dedicated to the 43rd Georgia Volunteer Infantry Regiment. I am working on a history of this regiment and searching for any information on the soldiers of this regiment: photos, letters, newspaper articles, location of artifacts, reunion accounts, mentions in other unit histories, family stories, copies of your ancestor's archive files, etc. I will gladly pay for copying and shipping. If you have something you would like to sell, please Contact Me

If you arrived here wondering if your ancestor was in the 43rd, check the rosters and the section on finding your ancestor.

Thanks to everyone who has communicated with me. Your correspondence is appreciated, I try to answer all mail but am sometimes swamped. Special thanks to those who have shared letters and photographs, with particular thanks to Dr. Max White who is responsible for five photographs.
