1/24 Early Dirt Super Modified

A new club class for 2007 based on the REH American Line #1013 chassis setup with 36d motor we've been using for many years in our Indy Roadster class.

The body used here is a cloned #1318 International brand "Sportsman Coupe" that was done in the 90's by a joint effort between Dallas Booth & Ed Sourbeck of EJ's Hobbies. They re-produced many rare bodies in the short time they joined up & luckily I managed to snag a few.

Here, a homemade dashboard with hand painted gauges is somewhat visible along with the Revell bodied/Champion headed driver salvaged from the ole' parts bin.

I basically used my already built chassis & added a rear body brace, some wheel inserts and "mud."

Although a car like this probably didn't have glass in it's time but, rather a screen in front, I opted to leave them in for better body strength.

1/24 '67 Chevelle Bomber/Early Late Model
A new MGPMRC Pro-Track class for Summer 2007.

The Chevelle body was discovered at a model show as a pre-painted built model, missing a few pieces.

After many years it was rediscovered in a box and used for this project.

Body was strengthened & mounted. Windows were removed and a Lexan interior & injected Revell driver was installed. Numbers are hand lettered and screen is ordinary plastic window screen as found at hardware stores.

Some minor detailing was done, the paint was "weathered" and simulated dirt sprayed on. Body is offset & tilted as were many of the dirt stockers of the day.

Wheel inserts are from the model parts bin and painted to simulate what might have been used during the 60's & 70's.
1/24 Pro-Track '60 Pontiac Bonneville - "Moonshine Runner"
Inspired by the 1958 movie, Thunder Road, the Monaco GP Model Racing Club of St.Louis held a one-time event, the Thunder Road Race on Sunday, December 3, 2006. The movie, starring Robert Mitchum and Gene Barry, depicted bootleggers or "moonshine" runners.
The moonshine runners tuned and modified their cars to outrun the law. These are the roots of modern day NASCAR.
The rules for the race required a plastic model kit in 1:24 or 1:25 scale mounted to an original ProTrack chassis.....
The cars represented could be any American-made sedan or pickup truck from 1932 to 1962. Participants could create either a moonshine runner or a law enforcement car.
Prizes were awarded for the first four places in concourse and in the race. The awards consisted of quart Mason jars with a Thunder Road logo.
First place in the road race also received a quart of 100 proof white lightning. All entrants received a small plaque and a Moon Pie.
My entry came out of a junk box as a pre-mounted slot car body with numerous "holes" & damage. I thought it would be perfect for the theme. I mounted it to the chassis with screws thus, eliminating four of the holes. A junk interior, dash & Cox driver were fitted and the body was put through a "Rust-all" process including the last step of "California dirt."
The car placed 2nd in the race.
1/32 Pyro '36 Ford Dirt Modified

This is the car I was refering to on the "Hot Rod" page, that sports my original Monogram '32 Ford Deuce brass chassis. It represents an evolution of my younger slot racing years from the mid 60's into the early 80's.

As stated, the Monogram Deuce was my first "kit" slot car recieved for Christmas of '64, I believe. I built the kit and raced it enthusiastically at home when, about that time we discovered commercial tracks.

Not knowing any better, while visiting the local "parlor" I placed my car on the track, hit the gas & watched it fly off the bank & onto the floor. This was the beginning of the end for the fragile little body. It was raced anyway for quite sometime until I discovered I had a built Pyro '36 Ford model on the shelf. It looked like it would fit! Looking back, this was probably my first "kit bash."

Later, after the quiet time of the 70's & a revival of the hobby (for me) in the early 80's, push bars & nerf bars were added along with a new Champion motor.

The paint job is a rememberance of sorts, loosely cloned after a favorite local early 60's dirt driver by the name of Ronny Thompson.

I don't think he drove a '36 but, it was some sort of maroon coupe with #77 on it. A very sketchy childhood memory.....
1/32 '32 Ford Stocker

This one was done slightly different with a Monogram Midget frame & running gear. The body is a '32 Ford stocker by Dubro, I believe.
