Passenger List
of the
Steamer General Lyon
when it set sail from Wilmington, NC on March 29, 1865 for Fortress Monroe, Virginia
The ship burned to the waterline off Cape Hatteras, NC
on or about March 31, 1865
(not to be mistaken with the U.S.S. General Lyon)
Her passengers consisted of discharged soldiers, paroled prisoners of war (most of whom were from the Florence Stockade, SC & Salisbury Prison, NC) and refugees; including about thirty women and twenty-five small children.
Out of approximately 600 passengers and crew only 34 are confirmed as survivors!
Except where stated as being a survivor, all passengers are presumed dead!
If you have information concerning any of these soldiers, please contact Edward Boots at EdBoots@worldnet.att.net
