"Tao Tunes" by Dave Flippo, based on various English translations of the Tao Te Ching, by Lao Tsu. STOP! (Chapter 9)
You better stop!... before you fill it to the top. Sharpen it twice... you'll find your knife won't slice. Too many riches... and all the crooks develop itches. If your ego gets too gets big... you could loose your gig.
So retire when the work is through. One exhalation ... relieves frustration. And do only what you need to do. This is the way of heaven, the way of heaven.
TRUTH (Chapter 81)
Truthful words are not beautiful, and words of beauty have no truth. Men of wisdom do not argue with their neighbor, and those who argue are not wise. The few who know, are not learned, and learned men, they do not know. And so the sage does not accumulate possessions... and so he knows that he's not owned by what he owns.
The more he does, the more he gives, The more he gives, the more he gains, The more he gains, the more he lives, The move he lives, the more he knows...
The Tao of heaven has a point, but does no harm. The Tao of ages produces work without effort... work without effort... work without effort...
VIRTUE (Chapter 54)
What is firmly set cannot be pulled out of the ground. What is firmly grasped cannot be freed. What is taught with deeds will surely leave a deep impression... To be honored by the daughter... honored by the son...
Develop virtue in yourself... and virtue will be real. Foster virtue in the home... it will abound. Nurture virtue in the town... and and virtue will expand. Nourish virtue in the country... the effect will be profound.
Establish virtue on the planet... Engender virtue in the heavens... Encourage virtue through the heavens... And soon you'll sense it all a-round...
So see the body as the body... The fam'ly as the fam'ly... The nation as the nation... The cosmos as the cosmos...
How do I know this is the truth? Am I sure this is the truth? How will you know this is the truth?... By looking!
WORTHY (Chapter 43)
The gentle rain... dissolves the mountain tall. A melody may enter ... where there's no room to stand. A teacher teaches lessons... and yet no words can be discerned. A worker works his deeds ... yet never moves.
A silent word... can still the braggart's roar. A feeling that is shape less... seems almost tangible. A leader leads his people ... and yet he wanders far behind... A man may find his wealth by by simply giving...
And so I know within my mind, How worthy is the way of doing nothing. And all these things that ring so true Are understood by but a few.
Other Original lyrics:
PRELUDE TO A DREAM
Drifting leaves.. whispered sighs... Smiling lips... closing eyes... A faint... melody... I have known... comes to me... All settle gently in my mind... my heart, As I drift from then to there and find my self
Here... 'neath the moon... By a stream... holding fast a million dreams Gathered from the stars that float above An end less ocean of souls.. that dream... in the night...
And wake... yet the fleeting memories linger on... And hope is nourished by the rays of approaching light... To emerge... like the Spring... Or the heart... of a child...
That will gaze at the sky... who will love... soaring high above the green, Raining down upon the sea of souls that ebb and flow far below... And move through the day seeking love... Fleeting smiles as they dream... forever more.
KUZUSHI
Kuzushi That's a Japanese word that Means that you are off balance.
Oops, don't push, I'm fall -in' down, Oh, woe is me! 'Cause now I am kuzushi The floor's gettin' closer... Than I want it to be
I was stand in' tall, As noble as a tree. Now they all say "kuzushi!" And I'm just a' tumblin' down Like a leaf.
But I'm not givin' up yet. Old man gravity is playin' one of his games. But that guy ain't got no -thin' on me. I'm gonna spin, until I find my center then begin again Now we can see if he can get me.
Rooted firm I'm planted like A mighty oak Nobody's gonna tip me. You won't see me Doin' no kuzu shi. |
