 THE DAVE FLIPPO GROUP

(2001-present)

The Dave Flippo Group blends a wide array of original vocal composition with unique arrangements of jazz standards and contemporary classics to create a diverse and exciting program for every agegroup.  The group has performed all over the Chicagoland area at numerous art centers, libraries and festivals.

 

The ensemble can appear as a duo, trio, quartet or quintet.

Southport Recording artists FLIPPOMUSIC presents it's "world-jazz fusion" program with original Flippo compositions which blends jazz with world music style the world over. A truely panoramic intercontinental musical journey.

The Dave Flippo Group mixes vocal tunes with some instrumentals and includes Flippo originals and unique arrangements of jazz standard and popular classics.   Some contemporary classics include Here, There and Everywhere (Lenon/McCartney), Chelsea Morning (Joni Mitchel), Visions (Stevie Wonder), Moon Over Bourbon Street (Sting), Up From the Skies (Jimi Hendrix)  and Fool on the Hill (Lenon/McCartney).  The Dave Flippo Group can appear as a duo, trio, quartet or even quintet.  Time 60 minutes.  

    

  

 

  

   

  
Dave's latest composition project -"Tao Tunes" sets some of the  magnificent writings of the Tao Te Ching, the ancient  Chinese masterpiece. 
Set in English, these powerful and timelss observations about the paradoxes and patterns of life are compelling yet simple.  The music covers a wide variety of style-- ballads, swing tunes, latin and funky grooves and jaz waltzes.     Many of these pieces can be sampled at the Flippo Composition Page . Time 60 minutes.

The quintet performs Flippo originals that blend jazz with world music styles from all of the world.   To date the program includes musical influences from India, Africa, the Middle East, South America, Eastern Europe, Jamaica, Cuba, America. Indonesia and Asia.  The ensemble has released two CD's on Chicago's Southport Records.  Time 60 minutes.

"Solo Jazz Flippo" program offers a high-energy solo piano concert, mixing jazz standards with  popular classics and originals to create plenty of variety. 
The program can be purely instrumental or can blend vocal and instrumental jazz.   Time 60 minutes.  

  

       


  

Dave Flippo's  Doctorate and Masters in Music Composition and piano from the University of Michigan and the Eastman School of Music have given him the exposure and training to improvise in both jazz and classical styles. 
Dave  loves blend jazz harmonies with classical harmonies and styles when rhapsodizing on the many masterpieces of the musical theatre-both past and present.   While many "jazz standards" come from the musicals of the 30's and 40's, new musicals have many beautiful songs to offer that are not often heard, yet familiar to listeners of many ages... Far From the Home I Love (Fiddler), Music of the Night (Phantom), What I Did For Love (A Chorus Line), Somewhere (West Side Story), Castle in a Cloud (Les Miserables),  No One Mourns the Wicked (Wicked).
