COMPOSER, PIANIST/VOCALIST, LEADER...
Since his move to Chicago in 1987, Dave Flippo has lead two unique jazz ensembles ... FLIPPOMUSIC and THE DAVE FLIPPO GROUP. Both have recorded CD's and have played extensively in the Chicago area.
FLIPPOMUSIC, formed in 1992, present's Dave's "globaljazz" compositions which blend jazz with a variety of world music styles. Dave's Doctorate and Masters in Music Composition (U. of Michigan/ Eastman School) and his world music studies combine with his jazz background combine to create a multitude of unique compositions which are performed by his quintet. He has also studied Indian music with Lyon Liefer and Muntaz Ali and taken classes with ethnomuicologists Ellen Kester and William Malm.
DAVE FLIPPO GROUP / DA DUO DI FLIPPO DE SANTO is a result of Dave collaboration with bassist Donn De Santo. The group showcase Flippo's vocals jazz talents and adds unique arrangements of jazz standards and popular classics to his vocal originals.

PIANIST, VOCALIST AND ENSEMBLE LEADER ...
An highly trained and versatile musician, Dave Flippo has been performing for private events as a soloist and small ensemble leader for over twenty years. His repertoire includes jazz standards, popular classics, show tunes old and new as well as ethnic and classical selections, when called for.
He can program the event according the client's preferences, weighting the music to one or more particular styles or focusing on preferred artists. Aside from a purely instrumental performance, Dave can add vocals and is comfortable in jazz standards, popular and show styles.
Dave Flippo holds a Doctorate in Musical Arts from the University of Michigan and a Masters of Music from the Eastman School of Music in Music Composition, with a focus on piano.
A private instructor in jazz piano, theory and composition since 1988, Dave presently teaches teens and adults of all ages at the Swain Studios of Winnetka and at the College of Lake County. He has also taught at DePaul University and the College of DuPage. |

Records; Flippo has also released two earlier solo piano records on the Inner Light Records label. The Group is presently working on Dave's newest compositional project "Tao Tunes," contemporary vocal jazz settings of eighteen chapters of the Tao Te Ching. These will be performed as a separate program and will also be adding these into the more eclectic program.
Dave has also toured and recorded with MARC SMITH'S PONG UNIT, joining with the quartet to back the performance poetry of Marc Smith -- originator of the poetry slam movement -- with a musical environments and improvisation. He appears on Marc's premier CD "It's About Time."
In his recent workshop experience at the Theatre Building Chicago, Dave has produced two full length musicals--Amelia and Roxane of Bergerac--which are currently being developed. |
