To preserve the flamingos' bright pick color in captivity,
they are fed a mix of carrot juice, paprika, boiled beets, and raw shrimp.
Without this mixture, their color would fade to a very pale pink.
Flamingos build mud nests that are 2 feet or more tall
and lay a single egg in a shallow depression on top.
Don Featherstone, creator of the Plastic Pink Flamingo, created the
lawn ornaments in 1957. They have been produced in only 2 poses and
sold in matched sets.
