Jackie & River - Kit Diary 2008
updated 7/8/08

3/5/08 - Well apparantly Jackie wanted us to have 3 FFP birthdays on March 5th - she decided to have her kits 3 days early!! Around 10pm I thought I heard a faint meep meep sound and sure enough there was a kit! She seemed to be doing fine, I had not even heard one sound of restlessness from Jackie.. so I left her be and checked in about 1/2 hour and there were now 3 kits! Wow that was fast... so again, I checked and there were 7! Oh boy. When I awoke the next morning there were 9 beautiful little meepers. Jackie was doing a tremendous job for her first time as a mom.

3/10/08 - Today I was able to check the kits really well and sex them..we have 4 little girls and 5 little boys in this litter. Several are dark and I can't wait to see how they turn out.

3/16/08 - 11 days old and getting so cute! Now they are starting to look like "ferrets" instead of just pink squirmy things... LOL In fact, they are not pink at all anymore. All of the kits have taken on a dark grey coat.

3/20/08 - 15 days old and getting much bigger. Hard to believe they will be ready for "mush" next week! The difference between this litter being so dark and Goldie's new litter being so light is like night and day! Jackie's babies are definitely very striking with their dark little noses and fluffy grey fur.

3/26/08 - 3 weeks old already wow! It does appear that all of these kits will be sables, possibly darker - but definitely not lighter! The kids have started on mush today which did not make mom Jackie happy about cleaning their messy faces (and bodies) off. She will have to get used to it as we have 2 more weeks of messy feedings to go...

04/9/08 - Sadly Jackie's kit caught a virus and for the last 2 weeks I have been fighting to keep their weight up and the virus away with antibiotics and frequent feedings. I finally feel that they are out of the woods and are now 5 weeks old - with their eyes completely open! Their weights are catching up and they are finally bigger than Goldies litter, who are 2 weeks younger than them... Very sad but they are sooooo cute! All of the kits are a varying shade of sable... all have colored noses except for one lighter boy who has a pink nose. The brood was moved into a small playpen to give them more room to stretch their legs and grow.. and also learn what the litterbox is about! LOL Enjoy!

The Girls

4/16/08 - 6 weeks old already! I can't get over how strikingly dark these babies are! I don't usually like the dark ferrets, but these are very cute I must admit! Doing wonderfully with the litter box and eating a variety of foods. They should be ready for their new homes in mid-May.

05/14/08 - Here are the kits 10 week pictures. I was able to get a helper to get better shots of them, but as you will see, there are plenty of bloopers too. I included some of the "missed" shots, just for fun. Good thing I have a digital camera! LOL Enjoy!

The girls have beautiful sable coats with dark noses and good attitudes.

6/8/08 - This week the kits will be 14 weeks old. They are so pretty and now showing unique personalities. All are sweet and give kisses. They have been doing very well with not biting and love to ride on your shoulder or back... like all of them at the same time. LOL They have been seperated into 3 groups now so that I can try to know who is who.

Our yet-to-be-named addition was the runt of the litter and is doing much better now. All of these kits are exceptionally well behaved, give kisses and love to play, jump and climb.
