Hailey & Munchlet - Kit Diary 2007
updated 5/13/07

2/17/07 - Into the world they came, one by one ~ all 8 of the kits have arrived. Giving new meaning to "Eight is Enough"! Our vet only saw 4 of them on the sonogram, so now he is in trouble ... Hailey delivered all eight of the kits with no problems or help from me. She did a wonderful job for her first time, I was thrilled.

2/19/07 - The kits are doing great, growing noticeably and getting darker already. Some of them have color on their noses, and some have color on the tips of their ears, very cute! All have black eyes, so no albinos in this bunch. It looks like possibly 4 boys and 4 girls, but I have been known to be wrong when guessing this early. Mom and kits are doing terrific on day 2.

2/21/07 - These are day 4 pictures. The kits are growing an amazing amount each day, I am surprised at how plump they are becoming. I believe there are 3 boys and 5 girls in this litter. One of the girls is a screamer, anytime mom leaves she starts wailing.

3/1/07 - Sorry for the delay!! I purchased a new camera and had to learn how to use it; now I just need to figure out the settings... I took some new pictures of the kits yesterday, so they were 11 days old in these photos. Enjoy!

3/4/07 - The kits are now 15 days old and starting to show some color. I took individual pictures of them today so that you can see the spots on their bellies and knees. Very cute kits. They continue to do well and grow. Not much else to say at this age. Another few days until we start on chicken "gravy". That should be fun!

3/12/07 - The kits are 23 days old, just over 3 weeks and doing good. I have them eating a cooked, ground chicken (with ground bones) mixture along with some cooked ground turkey. They are eating this three times per day in addition to momma's milk. The boys weigh between 76-108 grams and the girls are 90-108 grams. Two of the boys are small, but catching up quickly.

3/21/07 - Well with travelling to the York show and being interviewed for a TV game show.. life has been a bit hectic and updates are not coming as often as they should. I apologize! Haileys kits are doing tremendously well. They have broadened their eating horizions to include mice, chicks, ground chicken, ground turkey and still some chicken "mush". These photos are taken at 32 days old, 4 1/2 weeks. Most have opened their eyes or have started to at this point.

04/03/07 - Bad me, I'm so sorry for the terrible delay in updating this litter's site. The kits are moving along and growing each day. I have had to make some changes to their diet as they were not getting enough nutrition or calcium. Hopefully that has been corrected and they will start to get bigger and stronger soon. In these photos, the kits are 45 days old, just over 6 weeks.

04/10/07 - Wow, time flies when your growin' kits! They have started to develop personalities and traits of their own. The girls are so cute with their white feet and pretty white necks, while the boys are becoming rough, tumble and cute on their own. Next week they will start to leave us. :o(

5/13/07 - Well, I do apologize - this is definitely, by far, the longest period between updates... 1 month..wow. So much has happened! The kits went with us to the Ferret Fandango show at the end of April and momma Hailey won Best Opposite Breeder! (meaning that she was the highest placing jill in the breeder class). Three of the kits have left for their new homes, another jill will go in a few more weeks and 2 jills are still looking for homes. They are doing magnificent - they love to eat, play and sleep - all the important things that kits do.. They are also very good about nipping, they understand no bite and surprisingly do not bite my feet either. I guess I trained them well. :o) Some new pictures below:
