Alabama & Hershey - Kit Diary 2007
updated 5/13/07
2/28/07 - Allie had her sonogram today and Dr. Wagner found at least 5-6 kits inside. She is growing quite large, so I'm sure she will have more than that.. Here is a picture of her sonogram, I marked where the head is for reference. This is just one kit. The black surrounding it is the amniotic fluid.

3/9/07 - Just as expected, Allie delivered her kits a day earlier than her due date. Sadly though, she had no interest in caring for them properly. I was able to save four kits and Friday evening I drove them over to Columbus, OH to a surrogate jill. All four survived the trip and evening but we lost one the next day.
3/12/07 - We are now down to only two of Allie & Hershey's kits being fostered by a surrogate jill named Melegro. I am not certain if these two kits will survive, at 3 days old, they are only 12 & 14 grams. In the pictures, Allie's kits are the much smaller than the others, which are Melegro's, almost 4 days older.

3/20/07 - The tiny jill passed away today. She was only 20 grams at 11 days old and was not responsive to touch or stimuli. A very sad loss for our family.
3/22/07 - Allie's only remaining offspring is a BOY! He is going very strong at 50 grams today, 13 days old. Compared to his surrogate siblings - which are almost 1 week older, they range from 54-62 grams. I believe that he will either be a chocolate or champagne; very light still.

Surrogate Siblings :o)

04/10/07 - So our little guy is almost 5 weeks old now and doing just great. He looks to be champagne, which is exciting for me - my first champagne kit born in house! :o) His eyes are starting to open up now. The surrogate mom & siblings are going to be leaving to go back to their home on Saturday, so he will go in with my smallest boy, Bear, from Hailey's litter.

05/13/07 - Well, our little one, affectionately called "Meeper" (but will hopefully have a better name soon!) has survived his rough start and has grown into a handsome champagne hob. He is 9 weeks old now and has been living with Hailey & her remaining kits since he was 5 weeks old. Scarlett took her jill & kits back to Columbus at the end of April. He will be kept by us for breeding in future years, but he will live with a local ferret friend.
