ADV Info
All ferrets at Ferret Friends of Pittsburgh have been, and are tested regularly for ADV (Aleutians Disease Virus). Each ferret that was surrendered to us during a rescue was tested upon arrival with United Vaccine's CEP test. (Note: between 4/01 and 4/02 the Avecon POCT test was used, but all have been retested with United).
Our breeding ferrets are tested twice per year for show compliance and before breeding, as well as all kits that are born here. Our personal ferrets have been tested as well and have "check ups" done regularly. We keep scanned copies of our test results online but sometimes are slow on scanning! Please note that the instant tests are not listed on this page, only those mailed out for testing.
We believe that testing and education is what we can provide at this time. Unfortunately, so little is actually known about this disease. Research is underway and there are plenty of web sites with information to study. Listed below are links to pages related to ADV. These links are in the process of being updated, July 2005, so if you know of a great source of ADV information, please share it with me so that I can post the link here!
