Stream Flow Information for the Rocky Mountain Region
Having a knowledge of the optimal stream flow for a river to be visited and the
current flow rate for that river can be very useful. Imagine traveling hundreds of
miles just to find out that the river you wanted to fish is a raging torrent, when
you could have figured this out by visiting the appropriate web site from home.
Global FlyFisher (used to be "Fishing Denmark")
In the web author's words this is "A web site with information on fly tying and
fly fishing - tying techniques, fishing methods, tackle and material choice -
with many articles written by well known, international fly tyers and fly fishers."
Aside from that, this web site looks sharp. I like the way it is organized and I
like the contents. The photos are very nice.
Federation of Fly Fishers
To paraphrase from their home page, this non-profit organization deals with
sports fishing and fisheries. Their web page contains information on joining the
organization, fly tying instructions for some popular flies, techniques and tackle
(ex. buying your first rod), fly fishing events, etc.
Trout Unlimited
This is a conservation minded organization of anglers. In their words:
"Founded in 1959, TU is the leading conservation organization dedicated to
conserving, protecting, and restoring, North America's trout and salmon
fisheries and their watersheds. Our 100,000 members are organized into 450
local chapters nationwide. These volunteer chapters are the "watchdogs" of
their local rivers and streams. They conduct stream restoration projects,
monitor legislation, and fight for "fish friendly" policies with state and
local officials. Through its Washington DC-based national headquarters, TU
conducts valuable scientific and economic research to foster more
enlightened trout and salmon management practices, lobbies to strengthen
environmental legislation like the Clean Water Act and Endangered Species
Act, and provides a voice for its 100,000 members."
The Virtual Fly Shop
This site is related to Fly Fisherman magazine. They seem to have
lots of useful information and an active bulletin board.
Fly Fish America
This is affiliated with the Fly Fish America magazine, which
is available for free at fly shops.
Flyfish.com
Provides lots of good information and links to other sites. Here is the summary I got from them:
"Flyfish.com covers every aspect of flyfishing so thoroughly that avid fishermen
may consider making it their home page. From this site, casters can monitor
hatch and fishing reports, polish their fly-tying skills, and plan their next
vacation--and all this is just a fraction of this anglers' paradise. For the
novice there is also a helpful flyfishing FAQ included, though a careful
exploration of the site can act as a tutorial of its own."
