Track Rules

The 2009 season changes have been highlighted in yellow.

Fantasy World Racing is a Radio Controlled On-Road Car Racing Club.  Fantasy World Hobbies sponsors the club, but club members that also happen to work for Fantasy World Hobbies are not being paid while acting as race officials.

If you have any pictures or would like to write a review or story about anything R/C, you may e-mail it to fantasyworldracing@att.net for submission. If you have a picture of your car, please include a brief description of it including what company made the car and what electronics and hop ups you are using and what type of body is on it. If it is suitable for posting, it will be added to our web sight. This web sight is being provided to the club for free and we have a limited amount of space so not everything will make it on the web page right away. The pictures, reviews, and stories may only be posted for a limited time.

We are here to have fun. The following rules are designed to create a fun and fair atmosphere for the race participants.

Fantasy World Racing Rules

General Information:

When and where do you race?

The races are held during the summer on every Sunday that has good weather. Water on the track not only limits traction but can also destroy the electronics in the car. We race in the parking lot in front of Fantasy World Hobbies at 1909 S. 72nd Street, Tacoma, WA 98408. We do not race in the rain or wet pavement, please check the weather.

About the track

The track is made with 2.5-inch PVC pipe in a parking lot. The track size varies depending on the layout that we choose but usually takes up a 100-by-80 foot section of the parking lot.

Sign-ups and lap counting are controlled by AMBrc transponders and RC Scoring Pro software.  Personal AMBrc Direct-Powered transponders may be used.

Limited power is available for club races,  more will be available for Trophy races (i.e. we only have a few plugs, one is for the computer and the rest supply power via an extension cord and power strips to the racers. Too many chargers plugged into the same line may prevent some chargers from working.)

Fantasy World stocks a supply of parts for all your favorite brands in case of any mechanical problems.

Food is available from many nearby restaurants.

What type of races, and how much does it cost?

We run 2 or 3 qualifying rounds followed by mains.  If we complete the first 2 rounds of qualifying by 2:00 pm we will run a 3rd round of qualifying.  There are 2 minutes between each race.  If you are not ready on time, the race will start without you.  The class specifications and race times are listed at the bottom of this page.

We will run any of the classes of vehicle listed below as long as at least four of that type of vehicle shows up.  We will do everything possible to allow any novice entries to run regardless of how many show up.  We will not run vehicles that are potentially hazardous on our open track.  The only vehicle that is currently banned is the 1/8 scale off road Monster Trucks.  The standard classes we run are Gas and Electric Novice, 17.5/27T Stock, Open Mod, Gas Sedan, and Trans Am. and World GT.

Cost is $10.00 for the first class and $5.00 for additional classes for the same driver.  If you show up late and miss some of the qualifying heats, the full sign-up fee still applies.

Prizes, in the form of a number of dollar-off coupons called Bonus Bucks good at Fantasy World Hobbies, are awarded to the top three drivers (including the B's and lower) whose cars were running under their own power while crossing the timing loop after the time for that race elapsed.  First place will receive 5 Bonus Bucks, second place will receive 3 Bonus Bucks, and third place will receive 2 Bonus Bucks.  If you bump up, you give up your Bonus Bucks for that main. (i.e.  Normally in the B-main, 1st place bumps up, 2nd place gets 5 Bonus Bucks, 3rd gets 3, and 4th gets 2.)

When can I practice?

The track builders usually show up around 8:00 AM and start setting up the track (any help is welcome).  As soon as the track is complete, it will be opened for practice.  The track will be closed at 10:00 AM.

When do the races start?

Signups will close for the first qualifier at 10:00 AM, any drivers signing up after 10:00 will be added to the qualifiers after the first round is complete.  There will be a drivers meeting at 10:15 AM and the races will start immediately after.

What do I need to bring?

The only thing we supply is limited power, the track, and a spot on the asphalt.  Unless you want to sit on that spot of asphalt you should bring a table and chairs.  If you have one available, a tarp for shade always comes in handy.  There is a limited supply of extension cords and power strips, bringing your own is also recommended.  You should also bring food or money for food, race entry fees, drinking water, a small container to put your trash in, and your car and any equipment you need to keep it running.

Specific Rules.

No Profanity!

Please watch your language.  We do have children racers.  Also, we don’t want to discourage the spectators from trying out our hobby.  We want to project a friendly atmosphere that welcomes new people.

Clean up after yourself

Leave your pit area clean.  Pick up all the garbage that you brought.  If we leave the parking lot a mess, we may not be able to use the parking lot any more. Garbage is defined as anything that was not there when you arrived. Including but not limited to food or beverage containers, zip ties you cut from your car, parts of car bodies that came off, backing from the car number stickers, duct tape from the track, and cigarette butts.

Smoking and Drinking

Please limit your smoking near other racers. Do not smoke around Pit Central, when corner marshalling, or on the drivers stand.  Please bring an ashtray or some other receptacle for your cigarette butts so they do not end up on the ground.  Please refrain from Alcohol or other non prescription drug consumption during the races.

Corner Marshaling

All racers will be expected to corner marshal the race after the one that they are scheduled to participate in.  The exception to this is the Novice racers will corner each other and not the rest of the classes.  Even if you do not race, because of a broken car, dead battery, or any other reason, you will still be expected to corner marshal. Any exception to this rule (such as running two cars in back to back races or helping with the lap counting) must be cleared with the race officials. If for any reason, the race official thinks you do not have a valid reason for not corner marshaling and you do not corner marshal, that race official may disqualify you from receiving some or all of the bonus bucks.

When you are corner marshaling:

During Practice

Practice is defined as any time before the first heat, and during any breaks that the track is open.

Before the races

During the races

After the races
