There is a connector between the two sides, the corpus callosum. This is how the two sides of the brain communicate. But women have up to 40 percent more of these nerve bundles than men. This means that women are able to use both sides of their brain at the same time, whereas men have to switch from one side of the brain to the other, depending upon what they need. Women can enjoy more cross-talk between both sides of the brain since they use their brains holistically. This is why they can handle several tasks at one time and read earlier than boys. But we need the functions of both sides to have balance and derive the most out of life.
We have given the brain names for different sections as well as functions. We’ve already mentioned the corpus callosum. It’s that bundle of nerves that connects the two sides and integrates the emotional and cognitive aspects of our existence.
Three other portions are the following:
1. Hypothalamus – Receives incoming information through our senses’ sight, smell, hearing, touch and taste, then passes it on other part of the brain for processing.
2. Hippocampus – Interprets emotional valence (vigor); controls emotional response by transforming sensory stimuli into emotional and hormonal signals then refers this information to other parts that control behavior.
3. Frontal Cortex – Acts as supervisory system of the whole process of integration of emotional and cognitive functions.2
