Superkids Get the Royal Treatment!

Every child is a prince or princess, and here in first grade we think that's super! Beginning in January, every child is honored by a week of superkid activities! It's a time to celebrate that individual's uniqueness and to get to know the superkid better!

Before beginning our superkid sessions in January, I will send home a schedule of when each child will have his/her superkid week. Although it may change as the year goes on, this gives parents time to prepare and gather materials with their child. The week before your child's special week, you'll receive a booklet of information to fill out about your child - his/her likes, dislikes, favorites, etc. You as a parent will be asked to write a letter about your child as well - some parents have written stories, poems and songs - some have even produced videos! This booklet will come to school with your child at the beginning of the week.

Each child is also asked to prepare and bring in a photo poster with pictures of special people, pets and moments in his/her life. This is always a highlight of the week, as the superkid proudly describes in great detail each treasured photo! In addition, the superkid may bring in special items for a superkid show and tell, as well as his/her favorite storybook.

At the beginning of the week, the superkid will be "interviewed" by the teacher and students, and at the end of the week, the superkid will receive a booklet of letters from his/her classmates as a memento of a very special time!

What a regal way to boost self-esteem!
