Every day we're really hopping in first grade! Peek down the bunny hole to see just what we do! Our schedule is not set in stone, however, so it often changes...you have to be flexible in first grade!
OUR DAILY SCHEDULE
8:45-9:00 ARRIVAL AND BOOK TIME
9:00-9:15 MORNING MEETING. This time includes lunch count and attendance, flag, calendar, days of school count, poetry, songs and message board!
9:15-9:45 SPELLING and PHONICS. This is a time to introduce and reinforce spelling words, phonics skills and word wall activities.
9:45-ll:00 INTEGRATED LANGUAGE ARTS - GUIDED READING AND WRITERS' WORKSHOP. This is the heart of our language instruction time! During Guided Reading, children read silently and then complete centers while the teacher meets with guided reading groups. During Writers' Workshop, children work on writing assignments as teacher conferences with individuals and edits for punctuation, spelling etc.
We are on a six day schedule for our Related Arts classes, which include World Languages, Reading/Writing Workshop, Gym, Library, Music and Art. Look for a calendar to come home each month indicating which specials are held each day.
