Smooth Sailing!

Here are a few school and classroom policies and procedures, just to make sure things go "swimmingly!"

If you or someone else is planning to pick up your child from school, PLEASE send in a dated and signed note, with your child's full NAME on it. If your child will be attending an activity such as Brownies on a regular basis, a note EACH time is truly appreciated! All first graders will go to the Library this year to be picked up.

Remember that all children go outdoors for a 20-minute recess each day, except in inclement weather. Please make sure your child is dressed appropriately - an extra pair of mittens and a hat kept in the bookbag is a good idea!

The temperature in our room varies greatly, so dress your child in layers. I often keep a window or two open for "fresh air" and it can get a bit chilly!

Please label EVERYTHING with your child's full name - particularly coats, hats and mittens, as these are frequently misplaced! And although it might seem silly to label each pencil and gluestick, it really helps me to find the rightful owners!

If you are visiting our classroom, even if it is on a regular basis, you will need to stop at the office for a visitor's pass. If you do not have a pass, you will be asked to return to the office. Also, if you are visiting our school, Dickerson School's policy is NO SIBLINGS in the classroom during parties, projects or parent-teacher conferences.

Please make sure your child brings lunch and a small, healthy snack each day. If your child is buying lunch, the money (exact change is best) needs to be in an envelope marked with your child's name and lunch choice. Money brought to school for any reason should always be in an envelope with your child's name.

For the 2000-2001 school year we are beginning a new school-wide birthday tradition. Due in part to the large number of food allergies, we are no longer celebrating with treats such as cupcakes. Instead, parents are invited to give a small gift to the classroom, such as a book, puzzle, game or craft item. We are looking forward to this new tradition!

Dickerson School has a rule about "no pets." While we love our furry and feathered friends, too many children have allergies, so the policy is no pets! But bring in pictures if you like!

We're also asking that no toys be brought into school from home. Our classroom is filled with items to keep us busy, and lost or broken toys result in very sad feelings! Special items can be brought to share, but they are kept in a safe place until the end of the day! The superkid can also bring in items to share, but we will keep them for display only! Children often keep some "treasures" in their backpacks - these, too, can get lost, so try to keep them at home!

Thanks for swimming by! For more information about school and district policies, check the school district calendar.
