So many people have shown an interest in my poetry assignment collection that I have begun to offer the package for sale! It consists of approximately 90 poems with homework assignments on the back of each poem.
The poems reflect the various topics that I cover in my first grade classroom, including the seasons, holidays, literature and science themes. You can view my themes elsewhere on this website.
The assignments vary with each poem. Some assignments are math-related, others involve writing, phonics or other topics that are being studied in my room at the time I use the poem. The poems that I use early in the school year have easier assignments than those that I use later on in the year.

The Little Mermaid by Mrs. Tonnessen
There once was a girl who lived under the sea.
Kind and gentle and lovely was she.
She longed to be human and marry a prince.
the one she had saved and had loved ever since.
She gave up her voice to live on the land.
Now she had legs so that she could stand.
Does she marry the prince? Happy lives do they lead?
