A Back to School Note From Clifford!

It's almost time for going back to school! This year in first grade, we'll be going back with Clifford, the Big Red Dog! Do you know his stories? They're by Norman Bridwell. Clifford is always having an adventure, just as we will this year!

Clifford knows you are going to like first grade! You will sit in your very own desk -- even Clifford can't do that! You will have your own place to store your pencil case, crayons and school books!
When you come to school, you'll need to bring a few things! Be sure to have mom or dad help you read the First Grade Shopping List, because Clifford wants you to be well-prepared for school! Clifford says the best art smock is dad's old shirt, with the sleeves cut to fit -- and we'll wear it with the buttons in the back so write your name in LARGE letters across the back! Some of the items you'll keep in your desk, and some will become part of our class collection.

You'll need to bring your lunch to school in a lunch box with your NAME on the front, and carry everything in a large BACKPACK - NAME on the front, too! If you buy lunch, bring exact change in an marked envelope. You'll need a healthy snack each day -- pack it in a sack SEPARATE from your lunch! It shouldn't take more than 5 minutes to eat -- and I bet you eat a lot less than Clifford!
First Grade Shopping List
Clifford and I would like to see you before school starts! Please plan on visiting our classroom, Room 211, on Tuesday, September 4 at _____. Bring all of the supplies marked with stars ** on the shopping list, and of course, bring mom or dad! I'll have lots to show and tell you, and some activities for you and your parents to try, too!

On the first day of school, wear your name tag and have mom or dad write your BUS NAME on it, too! I'll be waiting for you in Room 211! There will be lots of teachers in the hallways to help you find it! Clifford and I can't wait to see you! Bring your backpack and all of the supplies you didn't bring when you visited, and of course, YOUR SMILE!
