Science Fair Project Assistance
This page has been designed to help interested students find science
project ideas and do scientific research at the middle school level. If
you find this page helpful please let me know by signing the guest book
at the bottom of the page. If you find a site that you think would
be appropriate for this page, please sign the guest book and suggest the
site. Thank you.
Sites with general assistance and project ideas:
Science
Fair Projects
Good general information and some project ideas. Some of the links
on the page are broken, the ones that work have good information.
Science
fair
This site has project ideas for many interesting projects from elementary
to senior level. Check out the intermediate level first.
Cornell
Theory Center
A wealth of information in most scientific areas of interest. Additionally,
there are links to mathematics and computer science areas that you may
find interesting.
K12
Science and Math Resources
Links to Math and Science sites all over the web.
Sites for Biology and Chemistry:
The
Charms of Duckweed
Several projects related to duckweed, methods could be applied to other
aquatic plant life.
Bio
Chem Net: General Biology
Biology, Botany, Zoology, Nutrition and links to many other scientific
research sites.
Chemistry
Contains much information which might prove useful with scientific
method, etc. The lab exercises are in Adobe format. The LAB Notes are really
worth your time to download look over. This might be above the ability
of most middle school students, but then again...
Chemistry
by students
This one is student created and has some experiments that I would like
to try. I believe that in some cases the methods could be improved but
all the methods and materials are included. Even what should recorded and
a simple text book containing the formula and explanation necessary for
a complete understanding.
Chemistry,
Biology and more
This site has information on just about any science topic you might
be interesting in exploring. A little graphic heavy (takes a long time
to load pages). Is a good source of information and experiments.
Behavioral Physiology:
Neuroscience
Extensive information on the brain and memory. On line tests that are
fun to take. Worth visiting, even if you're not doing this type of experiment.
A lot of graphics, may take some time to download; but it is worth the
time.
Sites for Physics:
Energy
Magnets, simple machines and solar energy experiment ideas.
Simple
Machines
Levers, gears, incline planes, etc. investigations. Could assist researcher
with physics projects or possibly a mathematics project.
Science
Resources for Teachers
Research information for energy and plant topics especially.
Some project ideas.
Krupen's
Splash
Alternative energy information and science project discussion.
Really interesting stuff.
Peanut
Power
This is an interesting project idea that you may want to try even if
you're not going to do an experiment. Can be expanded into a truly
great project by determining the calories generated by burning a peanut,
or other fuel.
K
- 12 Outreach Program
Math Science Learning Coalition. Good source for research and project
ideas.
Sites for Mathematics:
Math
ideas for Science Fair Projects
Ideas and topics too numerous to be listed. If you are thinking
of doing a mathematics presentation visit this site. If you enjoy
mathematics, but are not doing a mathematics project visit this site.
Guide
to Fibonacci Numbers
Golden ratio, PHI, etc. Bookmark the site, then follow the links.
You'll get hooked on all the aspects of the Fibonacci sequence.
Fibonacci
The Fibonacci Sequence is an interesting mathematical sequence and
should be of interest to any seventh or eight graded interested in presenting
a mathematical project.
Probability
and Statistics
Good site to visit for probability and statistics information and projects.
The information is very good. There are several models available
at STAT100
Computer Programs. If you're looking for something to help
you get started with a probability project, then check this site out.
Metric conversion assistance:
Unit
conversion table
This is just a table of conversion factors, nothing' fancy; but if
you can't find it here maybe it isn't a unit of measure. This would be
where I would look. The next three sites are 'nice to use' interactive
calculators.
Conversion
calculator
This interactive calculator will convert just about anything to or
from metric. Use the drop down menu to get the type of units you
wish to convert and the push button to select the conversion to metric.
Another
calculator
If you have to convert a length, volume, pressure or weight to metric
you'll find this on-line calculator useful.
A sample presentation:
Sample
Presentation
This is a sample presentation. Sorry, limited availability.
Form to submit abstract for review:
Mailform for State Abstract
Sample test that I'm trying for someone:
Take the Sample Silly test
If you have a site that you feel may help others complete their
science projects or help others find a science project, please sign my
guest book. If you have found a site listed here helpful, I would
also like to know that.
Thank you.
