Written Summary:

This must be my lucky week because I get to write a second review of Vee Arnis Jitsu featuring Professor David James, the grandmaster of this terrific street self defense system. I have given high praise in the past to all of the videos that I have seen on Vee Arnis Jitsu. Once again, Vee Arnis Jitsu scores big in this reviewer's opinion. This video is a bit different from other VAJ tapes I have seen. The overriding theme to this video is how to respond to an aggressor when you, the intended victim, must make the first strike. You know instinctively that this guy is going to attack you. You mentally decide that you, for whatever reason, must strike first. The moves on this video will teach you how to strike first decisively and take the attacker out of commission.

The moves are shown over 7 basic techniques. But inside each technique, are many valuable concepts for learning how to defend oneself. I have listed a brief outline below of the material and some of the concepts shown on this tape.

1. Touch and Go: This is one of Vee Arnis Jitsu's fundamental concepts and it is illustrated here with a training drill in addition to being shown in a self defense technique.

2. Shoulder Twist To Stranglehold: This is an extremely effective first strike move against someone who is trying to shove you with both hands. If you want to know how to keep a skilled fighter from throwing you, the answer is in this move.

3. Motion Causing Motion: This is another fundamental concept of Vee Arnis Jitsu with many possible applications. In this technique, we are shown how to use this concept to set up an opponent for a first strike. According to Professor James, Professor Vee always says the first two moves are his ( Prof Vee's ) and the rest are yours. Very nice.

4. Man Charging: There is a lot of bad advice out there on how to deal with someone who is charging you. However, this is very good advice on how to handle this problem. Forget all the other nonsense and check out this move if you want something that will work when you find yourself " in harm's way ".

5. Side Angle: How to take somebody out who comes at you from the side. Very nice and very painful. If you want to see some real " dirty boxing " street skills, check this out.

6. Money in the back pocket: A great trick to set a guy up for the kill. Good street psychology as well. Well worth the price of the video.

7. Shocking the eye: Good common sense for attacking first, particularly if you are untrained and want some " quick fix " fighting skills.

All of the techniques on this video are biomechanically sound, psychologically sound, and Professor James is almost inspirational as he encourages you, the video student, to take it to the opponent. I highly recommend this video to anyone with an interest in street self defense. The material on this video can be added to your current system of martial arts or can be learned as solid self defense system by itself. I know there is much to Vee Arnis Jitsu that I have never seen on video. I hope that someday we are all able to see a great deal more of Professor David James and Vee Arnis Jitsu. We at MAVR will be looking forward to seeing more in the future.
