Written Summary:
This is
another terrific tape from Tony Blauer. The video is shot at a seminar and consists
of two basic segments. In the first segment, Mr. Blauer is addressing the class in
a question and answer type format. He gives some great analogies and goes over some
of his basic philosophies on groundfighting and his opinion of some other approaches
that are used to train people (rape seminar training) in self defense situations
The
second segment is the physical portion of the video. As in every single video that
I have ever seen by Tony Blauer, he is constantly teaching, teaching, and teaching.
All of these videos can be watched 100 times and I always seem to pick up something
new or revisit some old ideas that I may have forgotten. The fundamental concept
that Mr. Blauer addresses throughout this video is the distinction between sport
grappling and groundfighting in the street (no rules). We are given several combat
scenarios such as being attacked with a rear choke, defending a rear choke, fighting
from a clinch, knife scenarios on the ground, hair grabs, and Mr. Blauer's unique
" spear " defense. ALL of these moves are explained in the greatest possible
detail with every minute move shown and explained. Also, the correct biomechanics
(as subject that Mr. Blauer seems to always address) are given a lot of attention
and deservedly so in my opinion. So many videos just show you a few moves, give a
brief description of the move (if you're lucky) and move on to the next technique.
This is somewhat of a technique video but is also a concept/training drill
video as well. Mr. Blauer's material is intellectually driven and is not for the
mindless martial artist who only wants to practice this or that particular move.
It is difficult to fully understand the depth and complexity of Mr. Blauer's approach
by only watching a single video. But after you have watched several (as I have),
it all starts to come together if you are diligently practicing what you see as I
have. And I am a much more confident and proficient street fighter as a result. As
with all of Mr. Blauer's stuff, this also comes with our highest recommendation.
