Written Summary:
This video
is presentation of approximately 30 or so training drills to help improve one’s
the fighting attributes of strength, sensitivity, and precision striking. There
is a good deal of effective training material on this video, particularly for the
beginning to intermediate level student.
The first section of the video
deals with striking strength drills. Most of the these drills deal with teaching
a student how to effectively shift weight into a strike while in motion. The remainder
of the drills deal with strength in a stand up grappling situation where students
attempt to use leverage to off balance their opponent.
The second section
deals with precision striking. Use of focus mitts is emphasized in these drills
as the students attempt to use visualization skills as well as developing good target
acquisition skills.
The third sections deals with sensitivity training. In
these drills, sensitivity is developed by learning to feel the what the opponent
is doing and then attempting to counter this move. Lock flow counter for counter
drills are shown and explained in good detail. This section was my personal favorite
on this video and Mr. Elwood discusses how this generalized drill may be applied
to joint locks that the viewer may already know but were not demonstrated on this
video.
These training drills seem to have good potential for teaching beginning
to intermediate level students. My main problem with the material on this video
is that most experienced martial artists will have seen and done these drills already,
in one form or another. While the material presented is sound, it is not particularly
insightful or revealing to anyone with any significant amount of martial training.
